“In every person a child is hidden that wants to play”

Play is a dance. A dance of unraveling of ‘I’. Underneath all the daily stuff...there you are! And you’re oozing with joy :)

When you play deeply, there is nowhere else to be, nothing else to do. You are in it. You are it.

So come play with us. Let us take you on a journey. We’ll gather for an evening of improvisational games to delight the senses. It’ll be awesome, seriously :)

We are seeking to run this event for free. We’ve been given a venue for the evening. It’d be nice to have something to nibble or drink too, so it would be great if you could please bring something small along on the night (e.g. dip, chips, bottle of something).

So here's the plan:

6:00pm - Come and join us for a nibble and chat

6:30pm - 8:00pm - Play!

Please arrive between 6:00 – 6:30pm as we’ll need to buzz everyone in the main door. If you have any troubles finding the venue, give me a buzz on[masked] 637.

with playfulness & joy,

Genevieve & Jo, Collaboratory Co-Directors of Play

p.s. There is lots of great research about why play is great and necessary in our complex times – but I’m not going to tell you about that. Come and experience it yourself (and that way you’ll know)!

Thanks Jo and Genevieve for running this event, it was a lot of fun. Good to hear you are planning on using it as a "nourishing seam through Collab Melb". PS. Thx for organising the venue Antony.

Hey Claire, glad you enjoyed it - great to have a meterologist in the room when weather is improvised! How random! ;-) On twitter we have continued a 'weather / play/ song' improvisation: the free associative self!

Well done Jo and Genevieve - new territory for me and the use of the space here at 130 Little Collins. It was wonderful to host such a diverse and fun group.

Pure Play is energising for the Players, and, I believe, for the space! Glad you experienced it as 'new territory, - what I love about Play is, when it's authentic, it is always new territory! Being present!

Great night - thank you! I'd love to join a group that does this kind of thing. But I can't find improv on Meetup - just lots of groups about "improvement"... any ideas?

Glad you enjoyed it! Hmmm, for more Impro in Melbourne check out Melbourne Play Theatre (a fave of mine!) - also check out Impro Melbourne. These 2 are about performance, but have intermittent workshops. Watch out for Jo & I doing more "CollabPlay" - we certainly wanna do more! I love performance, and I also love PURE PLAY - just entering curiosity & discovery.

I have a game of co-opoly that I have not played yet. Up to six players - everyone on the same team and everyone wins or everyone loses!

Love the enthusiasm!! Thank you all so much. So great to have 19 people on board! Okay, we're on the hunt for a free venue. Stay tuned. I'll send out an invite once we get the logistics sorted, but aiming for CBD, 20th Nov...

I'm more than interested! Putting my hand up to be collaborator in these "cunning plans"! ;-) And the date suits me!
