The US Department of Defense has committed $2B to the development of trusted and secure microelectronics. The US Air Force and AFRL as secured a significant portion of that funding to drive innovation. Welcome to our latest AFWERX Challenge:
Advanced Microelectronics Design and Prototype Challenge
What is your solution for a 14nm advanced System on a Chip (SoC) designed to operate and improve the features of an autonomous product of your choosing.

The USAF will support the participants through this MULTI-PHASE challenge by providing a commercial cloud-based development environment, design and verification tools, IP libraries, design expertise support, and fabrication. Access to this platform will be provided to selected teams at no cost to them, a potential value of up to $10M for just Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and access to libraries of design IP. Further opportunities for physical chip design and prototyping will be defined for later stages.
The five phases cover the span of the next 18 months. The first phase is focused on ideas and concept proposals. Those selected will be invited to participate in our showcase event in Las Vegas, February 2019. At the showcase, you will have the opportunity to share your concepts with visual displays explaining your design. There will also be private meetings with USAF Subject Matter Experts to answer specific questions about your design. During this event, we will be finalizing the teams that we will work with through the subsequent phases, including rapid prototyping.
