My Last Snowshoe Outing of the Season: Hermans Lake

  • This location is shown only to members

Snowshoe hike to Hermans Lake from Hermans Gulch Trailhead (exit 218 off I70).  Snowshoes required for this hike. Wear waterproof boots and bring at least 1-2 liters of water and snacks/lunch.  Trekking/snowshoe poles, leg gaiters, sunglasses, and sunscreen recommended.  Bring clothing to handle the predicted weather conditions.  Current forecast is for mostly sunny skies, temps around 30 degrees, wind gusts as high as 30 mph, and a slight chance of some snow flurries.  Current forecast of 12 inches of new snow in the area for Monday.

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=39.72039163613398&lon=-105.87455749511719

Total RT distance: ~ 7 miles.

Trailhead Elevation: ~ 10,300 ft.

Max elevation:  ~12,000 ft.

Total climb: ~1900 ft.

This is an advanced blue (intermediate) level snowshoe at a pace of about 1.5-2 mph including rest stops.   Total hike time should be 4-5 hours and about 1 3/4 hour each way for drive time.  Pace will be dependent on trail conditions:  new snow amount, packed trail, etc.

If anyone wants to meet the group in Boulder, Golden, or at the trailhead, please comment when you sign up.  I'm limiting the group size to my van capacity.  If more than seven sign up, I can increase the group size if someone else volunteers to drive.

Please read the hike description carefully and don't sign up for the hike unless you are confident you can complete the described hike (Pace, expected conditions, RT distance, total climb, and max elevation).

Notes:

Dogs: No!

We do regrouping stops at all trail intersections.

Please be prompt so others are not kept waiting. Five minute wait for no-shows.

Please, don't show up for a hike unless your YES RSVP has been accepted for you and any guest(s) that you intend to bring with you.

Please cancel if you decide not to attend so spaces will be available for others.

Disclaimer:
Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I normally lead hikes that I've done before. I don't do technical climbs but some of my hikes have strenuous climbs that may require using some handholds and require good physical strength and agility. I am not a professional guide. You are responsible for yourself. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear and conditioning you require.
And lastly, anyone choosing to hike with our group should carry personal medical insurance and a CORSAR (Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue) card in case of an emergency.

I may bring a guest. My brother-in-law will be in town and may join us. We would meet you at the trailhead. If he decides not to go, and you have room, I may meet you in Longmont.

Meet you at Golden WM PnR?

    April 22, 2013

    • Perry

What is the WM PnR. Is that the wide area on the south side of US 6 at the mouth of the canyon? I think we picked you up there on the Parnassus hike.

Nope, it's one of the Dino lots off of Exit 259 from I70. I'll meet you at the US 6 South Side lot, thanks again.
