I sent a letter a month or so ago to Vitamin Cottage expressing how offensive the constant pushing ot murdered birds for Thanksgiving was to their vegan customers, in particular having to fend off the question at the checkout counter in addition to the signs everywhere  about it in the store.  I have to say that at the Boulder VC they haven't asked me that question the last couple times I was there.  Maybe enough people complained?

It’s great to have vegan options from Boulder’s only independent grocery.  However, it’s extremely important to my shopping experience that Vitamin Cottage is the only grocery in the region that does not have a prominent, glass, refrigerated display case of muscle tissue.  Lucky’s has one of these, and – as everywhere else – it’s repulsive to have to pass by this array of body parts and see and smell it, being painfully reminded of our culture’s priorities.

 

For this reason, and the fact that all of their produce is organic, I do most of my shopping at Vitamin Cottage.  I have not been asked this year about a murdered bird.  In past years, I have heard that question and expressed how offensive I find it.  Maybe I’ve had cashiers this year who studied my purchases before determining whether to ask the offensive question.  I’d like to think that’s the case – a first step in awareness of the issue.

Just an fyi that the independently owned Lucky's Market in North Boulder had done a remodel and opened a bakery and food service area that offers a lot of vegan options.

Unlike the very anti vegan Vitamin Cottage that is fiercely anti plant powered diets (how offensive that the cashiers are forced to ask their vegan customers if they have ordered their dead turkey, yet)  and continually moving out vegan products for animal products, Lukcy's market is very vegan friendly and welcoming to the vegan community. 

 

Please consider leaving a written comment and letting management know that you are pleased they are offering so many vegan options, and encourage them to continue to expand plant based  choices in their food service offerings. The easier, more available vegan options are, the more vegan choices people will make, and the less animals will suffer.
