Thanks for sharing this Cheryl.....here's the letter I sent, I hope it's not too late for them to reconsider this event.

Hi Amanda,
My name is Adena Kling and I'm a local social worker in the community. I heard about your Turkey Bowling event planned for tomorrow and I for one am very disturbed on a number of levels by this event. For starters, you are representing an institution of higher learning charged with educating young adults on how to become responsible citizens of society. This hopefully would include broadening one's intellect in becoming conscientious, understanding human beings, concerned with humane compassion for all beings.
Representing an event like this at FRCC is not only condoning a blatant disregard for compassion of all beings but it's also highly insensitive. Whether you are vegetarian or not, would you "bowl" with other frozen animals? How about frozen dogs or cats?

In addition, the true meaning of Thanksgiving is about gratitude for the bounty of nature, bringing in seasonal harvest and generosity of spirit for people and beings unlike us. The turkey was a sacred bird at one time in our culture and Benjamin Franklin actually lobbied to have the turkey instead of the bald eagle, as our national bird.
Help me understand how bowling turkeys helps to cultivate any of the true meaning or intent of this national holiday?
For the sake of compassion, and doing the right thing, I hope you withdraw the turkeys for the event tomorrow. I think you can have as much fun using a standard bowling ball without sacrificing the integrity of one our planets beautiful beings.
Sincere regards,
Adena Kling

HI all,
I am hoping some of you will write letters to Front Range Community College.  I attend classes there and I am completely disgusted that this will be part of the festivities for the Thanksgiving "celebration."  "Turkey Bowling ~ try literally bowling a turkey! Come and knock down pins with a frozen turkey in the Community Room from 11 AM to 1 PM on November 16th and 17th".  This is completely disrespectful of the life that was given with the intention of consumption.
I'm about to write an e-mail to the director of Student Life and I am hoping that with a few other words from the community they will consider canceling this event and consider their actions in the future.  (Side note- they also serve grilled hamburgers to "celebrate" Earth Day", which I find completely ironic.  When approached about this, they just say, well we have veggie burgers also.)

Thank you in advance!

P.S. I'm vegan so I'll be eating delicious, life-giving food this Thanksgiving.
