  • Ending Gerrymandering Discussion - hosted by MAT & GROW

    Common Ground - Middleton

    $5.00

Join the Middleton Action Team & the Grassroots Organization of Waunakee/Westport on Sunday Sept. 22 @5:30pm as they host a discussion on ending gerrymandering. NOTE: This is an after hours event open to the public that is hosted by MAT & GROW and is unaffiliated with Common Ground Middleton. Details: Support to end partisan gerrymandering is widespread in Wisconsin. A recent Marquette University Law School poll showed that 72% of Wisconsinites want to ban gerrymandering in Wisconsin, and that includes the 63% of republicans and 76% of independents. It is now time to take drawing maps out of the hands of politicians and allow a nonpartisan legal staff to draw the lines. Guest Speaker Doug Poland is a member of Rathje Woodward LLC, and the founding member of the firm's Madison office. Poland co-lead on the trial counsel for the plaintiffs who successfully challenged the Wis. Assembly Legislative districts before three-judge federal panels in 2012 and 2016. He was part of the legal team that represented the respondents before the U.S. Supreme Court in Gill v. Whitford, and he recently represented the plaintiffs in the remand of the case to the district court on gerrymandering. Doug earned a Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. $5 at the door covers room charge and includes a potluck dinner provided by the Middleton Action Team. Drinks available for purchase from Common Ground Middleton (full cafe menu, beer, wine, soda, etc)
