Am I the only one that has noticed that the return of the cocktail is big, big, BIG?........and it's about time I say! As Dale DeGroff states: "The cocktail is in a word, American. It's as American as jazz, apple pie, and baseball; as as diverse, colorful and big as America itself. Indeed, it could even be argued that the cocktail is a metaphor for the American people; it is a composite beverage and we are a composite people." The cocktail is so nostalgic for me.....I remember my parents sipping martini's at our home cocktail parties, and serving guests mint juleps in a silver julep cups on the deck during summer......so very civilized!!

Hot new mixologists are popping up all over Portland, Beaker and Flask, Teardrop Lounge, The Pope House, Clyde Commons......they have inspired me to dust off my long forgotten manuals on cocktail classics and rediscover the art and craft of the cocktail!

And so......I contacted Roots Restaurant in Camas and asked (begged) them to give us a private cocktail class (with food pairing!)....and they were VERY gracious and said YES! Whee-e-e-e-e!!

SO......Randy Jackson, Roots master mixologist, will be teaching us how to make FIVE cocktails. Each will be sampled and paired with food (they have a WONDERFUL kitchen and rave reviews on their cuisine). The class will start promptly at 3:00 and last for approximately 2 hours. This is SO cool!!!love struck

Afterwards.....you may choose to stay for dinner OR happy hour which runs on Sunday too......this will not be officially part of the meetup, but I think you will love their happy hour menu OR their regular dinner menu!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Roots, it is owned and operated by Brad Roots, formally of Higgins, Wildwood and Red Star Roast House.....(how's that for a pedigree??). He opened his restaurant in 2003 and it continues to receive STELLAR reviews!) The restaurant is in the Riverstone Market Place in Camas, Washington. Dining is upscale with an emphasis on local northwest cuisine and ingredients. The restaurant offers an open view kitchen in a very warm, inviting interior. .......I know you'll love it!! It was also rated by Bon Appetit as "one of the best spots around the country for a romantic winter dinner:.

I "mapquested" Roots from driving time from downtown Portland and it is 16 miles and approximately 22 minutes.

Hope to see you there!! Space is very limited so grab a spot quickly if you want in!!

Due to the restaurant having to "staff up" for just us.....there will be no refunds....so please be sure you will be able to attend if you secure your spot with a yes RSVP!

Salud!!
