I suggested the date to Allan mostly because TFL informs me that it’s a weekend when the Northern Line, that harsh mistress, is not actually closed, and then it was pointed out to me it was Easter Weekend. Don’t know if any of you celebrate, but personally I’ve always been partial to celebrating that time by drinking lots in establishments where people wear too much black, so this is actually PERFECT! :D
I thought we’d start off at the Southampton Arms (nearest tube: Kentish Town), a pub that specialises in independent UK microbreweries: http://www.thesouthamptonarms.co.uk/
After that, in case we’re feeling peckish (I know I will be!), I thought we’d stop by the conveniently located Dirty Burger (http://www.eatdirtyburger.com/). They don’t have a large beer selection but their burgers are apparently LEGEND-wait for it-ARY!
Seriously, look at this beauty:
…ok, hungry now
Given that we’ll be in their neck of the woods, it’d be a crime not to pop into the Camden Brewery/Bar (http://www.camdentownbrewery.com/news/). In case burgers are not your thing (philistines!) their food menu informs me the 19th April will be Barbecue day.
After that we head towards Camden Town, and depending on how dr…, er adventurous we feel, we can always check out Tapping the Admiral (…is that supposed to sound dirty? Do I care? No, no I don’t). http://www.tappingtheadmiral.co.uk/
There’s some other options on the way, like the Lock Tavern, but speaking from experience as someone who used to live around those parts (before I knew about good beer, so I really didn’t get the full benefit!), it’s nearly impossible to get a seat on a weekend.
Finally we get to arguably my favourite bit of Camden, the one with TWO excellent beer pubs within two minutes of each other. We could go first to the Black Heart, a rather gothy/rocky place with good music (well, to my ears at least) and an unexpectedly good beer selection: http://www.ourblackheart.com/
We then (some might say inevitably) wrap up the evening at Brewdog, because that’s where we always seem to end up anyway (but hey, it’s a different one this time, so yay for diversity). No introduction needed, but here’s a perfunctory link anyway: http://www.brewdog.com/bars/camden
