Building Mobile Applications with jQuery

This meeting will be a preview to Sid Maestre's Adobe MAX 2010 workshop, and will not be broadcast online or recorded Learn how to use HTML, CSS, and jQuery to build mobile applications you can deliver across multiple devices. In this lab, we'll cover jQuery basics and incorporate the jQTouch plug-in to manage navigation, touch events, animation, and skinning. Techniques for client-side data storage and data caching will also be covered.
Skill Level: Intermediate Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Requirements: Your own laptop, Safari Browser, HTML Editor (I'll be using Dreamweaver CS5)
About the Speaker: Sid Maestre has been designing and developing web applications since 1998. His passion for cutting-edge technology led him into Rich Internet Application and now into mobile development. Sid spent many years consulting with startups, building both ColdFusion and Flash based applications. Recently, Sid founded Crush It Mobile, focused on mobile apps in the conference space. Sid’s community involvement includes managing the Bay Area ColdFusion User Group, organizing the first ColdFusion DevCamp in 2009, and speaking at 360|Flex San Jose in 2010. I love the presentation style of this talk:
start with a very simple app to be implemented.
Then build it up step by step; which shows you how things work. Thanks Sid, your talk is by far the best intro to doing mobile apps that I have run across.

The presentation was well planned, and presented. We built an application real time, the handout was easy to follow and just the right amount of information!

This meetup had a very good hands-on lab experience!

Good presentation. The "coding" session seemed a little much, expecting that many people to stay on top of the code is always a tough exercise.

It was very informative, and I learned a great deal in a short time. Pizza was good, and I even won a book in the raffle.

Great presentation, enjoyed it a lot. Probably needed another 30 min to do well as it became very rushed at end. Coming from the design side (not hard core coder), I was able to type in the code and get things to work but I have no idea how to relate to the syntax of the code and it's logic. Perhaps a flow chart at the end would be useful. Should definitely included a handout page on how to implement the app on a phone. The one page screenshot was not up long enough to make notes.

very informative and well thought out. The instructions and pace were easy to follow and I like how the pieces came together to complete a whole project.

Excellent presentation by Sid, and many people commented on how much they loved the hands-on workshop. We received requests to offer more of these and we will certainly take it under advisement. Dismal turnout by those who RSVPed "yes" in my opinion, which is a shame because there were 24 people on the waiting list. That being said, those who did attend were responsive and asked excellent questions. An enthusiastic group and thanks again to Brian Pardini of Pardini Creative for supplying the pizza!
