Richard Dawkins The Science of Beauty and the Beauty of Science

Free public lecture

Thursday, March 7, 2013 7:00 pm

Richard Dawkins is one of the world's most influential living scientists and authors. Dawkins' work as an evolutionary biologist pioneered a gene-centric view of evolution, and he has become a leading advocate for reason and science. A former University of Oxford Professor of Public Understanding of Science, Dawkins now runs the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, which finances research on the psychology of belief and religion, scientific education programs and materials, and publicizes and supports secular charitable organizations.

Dawkins will deliver a public lecture, "The Science of Beauty and the Beauty of Science" at 7 p.m. on Thursday March 7 at the Bank United Center, as part of Taking Flight: The Year of the Humanities and the Arts at the University of Miami. Dawkins will deliver the lecture and serve as a visiting professor at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences, thanks to a generous gift from the Louis J. Appignani Foundation.

Prof Dawkins' could have expanded his discussion of the Peacock's plummage to human intelligence. Each peacock chick has the gene for "colorful plummage" and the gene for liking "colorful plJablonkaummage" hereafter referred to as CP. I do not use "X" so as not to confuse anyone sex chromosome pairing. Now let's substitute for CP in the case of human babies, "HI" for high intelligence. If humans were to breed based on HI, would all humans in some future generations be atheists?
Quite appropriately, Prof. Dawkins apologized for failing to mention even one female evolutionary biologist such as award winning Eva Jablonka in the field of epigenetics, which explains women wearing spike high heels and enlarging their breasts with huge implants.

If you have tickets and won't use them, email the pdfs to me at [masked]. I'll give them away at the door. There are already people asking about them.

Not going. Too far to go from Orlando. Although I do have a ticket. If there are no more available tickets, I assume I could email mine as an attachment.

I'm thinking about going - its a 4 hour drive from my place (assuming no rush hour traffic - ha). I have a 6 or 7 passenger minivan. I assume it would end around 10pm, so a 4 hour ride back would be 2am (for me). Is anyone else going I could pick up along the way.

If you have room, I'd like to carpool with you too. What time do you think you'll be leaving to drive there?

Looks like I won't be able to make this trip. Sorry if I have messed up anybody's plans. Hopefully you can get a ride with someone else.

I'm planning to meet Dan and Casey and possibly Daniel at my place at 11am in Longwood. If anyone else wants to meet at that time, to drive together in a kind of FACTS convoy, that would be fun.
I hope that everyone who wants to come was able to hook up for car pools. If not meeting at my house we could maybe hook up about 6pm outside the event somewhere.....Thoughts?

I have another friend who wants to come too. We'd rather hitch a ride with someone (I hate driving) but I'll drive if no one else is available. I have a small but comfortable car with space for two more people.
