Walk for Pedestrian Safety

We are walking again for pedestrian safety after our successful action in October. We got many requests to walk different intersections, demonstrating how unsafe people feel crossing the street, and we ultimately decided to walk the intersection of Brickell and SE 15th Rd due to its proximity to the crash that sent a female jogger to the hospital last October.

We will be walking this intersection on January 21st, beginning at 1:00 PM and we will go till about 2:00 PM. We will be carrying educational signs and information on pedestrian rights, which we will be handing to interested drivers and passersby.

Please join us as we educate drivers and work to make Miami a more walkable, safer city!

We will be explaining the rights of pedestrians in crosswalks at 12:45. Please arrive early so that you are fully informed.

I have an intersection in my beighborhood where the crosswalk is before the stop sign. Drivers literally stop after they've already driven onto the intersection. (SE 3rd Street and S Biscayne Blvd)

I know this intersection, have walked it a few times (never felt safe and was always on high alert), and just driving through the intersection makes me cringe for pedestrians.
    That's why I'm attending!!!

Glad to hear it. We hope to slowly change driving culture and pedestrian's sense of safety through these.

Miami needs to join other big cities in making its streets pedestrian friendly.
