Re: CTO School list: "Hardware selling/buying // Question about where to place"

Hi Dominic,

There is a company Computer Overhauls that I can't recommend them more highly to buy or sell high quality used/new laptops.  They are a hidden gem here in NYC.

Computer Overhauls has been around for a long time.  They have a physical location in a building on 7th Avenue (at 7 Penn Plaza on the 7th Floor), though most everything can be done on their website.

When selling, they make that pretty painless to auto-generate quotes directly from their website based on self description of the unit before you bring it in/ship it to them.  A big plus is that they guarantee complete/deep wiping of disks before they.re-install a fresh OS before reselling.  This alone is a huge plus because that is always a pain when retiring (or even throwing out) a computer.

As for buying, I have bought used computers from them and their prices are really good. I tend to only buy Lenovo computers, but they also buy/sell Macs and iPhones.  You can shop on their website for exactly what you are looking for, but keep checking back because they rotate stock frequently.  A huge plus is that in addition to coming with a six month warranty, they also offer very reasonably priced extended warranty which includes Accidental Damage (like what IBM/Lenovo used to offer) which also covers things like dropping or spilling something on the computer.

Like I said they are a hidden gem.  I tell all my colleagues about them (just as I tell everyone shopping for glasses about Zennioptical but that's another topic...)

Best,
Gerry

Hardware selling // Question about where to place
Hi All,

Has anyone ever had to sell their hardware? We overpurchased for 2019 and I was curious if anyone had recommendations for where to sell it. We've several new-and-used Mac devices, and are looking to offload them.

E-bay has a $1,000 limit to our account for sales (unless we jump through several hoops) and I've been asking around about where do you re-sell these devices. It's higher-end than LetGo so... any alternative sites?

Alternatively (and I rarely solicit so please forgive) if anyone local to NYC is interested in any of the below, I'm happy to connect offline (dom@domandtom) and offload.

Thanks for your help,
Dom
