New Meetup: A Day in Haarlem

Announcing a new Meetup for The Art, Music And Groovy Day Trips Group!

What: A Day in Haarlem

When: August 9,[masked]:00 PM

Haarlem Central Station

Greetings, all!

I propose that on August 9th, a Sunday, we make a cultural pilgrimage to the charming city of Haarlem -- the place where, it is rumored, you can hear the purest kind of Dutch spoken anywhere in the world. Now, the beautiful guttural Dutch language aside, how about we try to kill all of the following birds of Haarlem with one stone that day:

1) Visit the famous Frans Hals museum. It houses a large collection of must-see paintings from the Golden Age. I assume everyone has heard of the Golden Age?... No, it's not that blissful time when you start receiving a pension for sitting at home :)

2) Thereafter optionally take a coffee break to digest (and share) our first impressions.

3) Then head to the Teylers museum. It is the oldest such establishment in the Netherlands and contains an extensive variety of everything that elicits curiosity. In particular, being featured until the end of September is an exposition on the 400 years of Dutch coinage. Square and paper coins (you read it right) are claimed to be included among the specimens on display.

4) Wrap up the terrific day by grabbing a dinner at a surprise location, courtesy of the Haarlem Dining-Out Meetup Group.

And that is pretty much the overview. Let's meet at the big bus station next to Haarlem Centraal (map). A note about the price of museum admissions: it's about 7 euros at each of the two but free if you are the carefree owner of a Museumcard.

See y'all in Haarlem on the 9th!
