Talk
Building a Board Game Recommendation System from the Ground Up
In this talk, we will build a content-based recommendation system from the ground up. We’ll be taking our data from the top ten thousand ranked games on the BoardGameGeek database. From this data, we’ll build our system around the k-nearest neighbors algorithm using two metrics. One will make use of user-made categories while the other will employ a TF-IDF weighting scheme on board game descriptions.

Speaker
Patrick Beben is currently a Senior Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton. Previous to that, he spent nine years as a mathematics teacher at the high school and college levels. He grew up in southeast Louisiana and has a Master's in Mathematics from Texas A&M. He spends entirely too much time chasing around two kids to be able to play the latest, greatest board games.
