Here is a trip to another one of my favorite areas, Otter Creek. I normally do this one in the summer due to the cool temperatures and deep forest and most importantly all the waterfalls and swimming holes on Otter Creek!
Due to trail damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, trip mileage will be ~12.8 miles.
Trail route and map can be found here: http://www.midatlantichikes.com/id142.html. (http://www.midatlantichikes.com/id142.html)
Please print off a copy of the map Jim posted below and bring it with you.
We will run a carpool from Centreville Park n Ride. Please arrive by 7:30pm so that we can arrange carpools and get on the road. It will take a little over 3 hours to get to the trailhead.
***We will not be doing a group meal. Everyone will need to bring their own food to cover Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sunday we have a short 3 miles back to the car, so you will only need breakfast and any snacks you want.
This trip has us camping at the trail head on Glady Fork by Mylius Trail on Friday night, then in the morning you climb the mountain, but it is not too difficult, then coming down the mountain into Otter Creek where we will camp next to a small falls and nice swimming hole. This wilderness area has it all from bogs to great flora and fauna but lacks the sweeping views but always makes a great summer trip as it has very few bugs and lot's of water in a deep forested setting! Note this is a wilderness area so group size is limited to 10 people only. As always great food and company, so saddle up for a classic summer moderate to strenuous trip.
