This is a pre-Easter meal hike so we will not be stopping for lunch.
If you combine Rock Creek Park's Valley and Western Ridge Trails they form an 11-mile loop that makes for a great day hike right in the city!
There is plenty of parking at the Nature Center. It is also accessible by a combo of metro/bus. From either Friendship Heights Metro station (red) or Fort Totten Metro station (red/green/yellow), take Metrobus E2 or E3 along Military Rd. Get off at Oregon Ave (opposite Glover Rd). From SE corner of intersection, walk uphill on paved path for 400 yards to the Nature Center.
Everyone must have a map: http://www.nps.gov/rocr/planyourvisit/upload/ROCRmap1.pdf
Meet at 7:45 am. We will take off down the trail by 8:00 am.
11 miles - This is a moderate hike because of the distance. We would like to keep a pace of at least 2.5 mph.
Duration: ~4.5-5 hours
Terrain: Mostly dirt or stony dirt; some pavement, grass; rocky, roots in places. Trail shoes are fine (hiking boots not required).
