RE: [dc-java] [JOB] Java Systems at Lab49 DC - No Recruiters Please

Ryan,

I’m the senior-level person you are looking for.

My resume shows a lot of diversity, and it is a two-page distillation, so here is a summary of some experience I think relevant:

Ph.D. in Computer Science, 2011

Experienced in Java (but not so much with the Enterprise stuff). For my Ph.D. project, I extended Eclipse to produce sounds so that the developer can “hear” characteristics of packages, classes, interfaces, and methods. Eclipse communicates to a back-end sound synthesizer (CSound) via a socket interface to produce the sounds.

Five years development using C#.NET of back-end server programs, front-end Windows user interfaces, and to lesser extend ASP.NET web user interfaces. Also a lot of SQL*Server and, before that, Oracle SQL queries and stored procedures.

Have specialized in the past in software process implementation and improvement, and have more recently been on an Agile team.

Significant software project management experience, bringing in projects on schedule and within the original budget.

Lots of system-level programming: sockets, critical sections with semaphores, timers, etc. I have an understanding of processor task scheduling, memory allocation, etc., and the differences between operating systems in this regard (mainly Windows and Linux, with an idea of the Mach kernel, too).

Knowledge of data collection and analysis. Most recently, designed a human-subjects experiment for my Ph.D. and analyzed the data using R.

Have worked on complex systems. For example, served as key front-end analyst, then developer and author of automated GUI test code, for the redesign of the core information systems at a third-party insurance administrator and broker (TPA). Going further back, worked as a contractor for the FAA as head of a team that had technical oversight all development of the Microwave Landing System (MLS), a zero-visibility landing system for aircraft.

Enough? There’s more. If you find my background intriguing and you would like to chat, here is some contact information:

Hi DC Java!

I am looking to hire some extremely talented full-time technologists to help build and architect forward-thinking, complex trading systems at Lab49. All levels are encouraged to get in touch.

In short, if you are curious-minded, talented, intelligent and yearn to work with the best java engineers on the planet, this job is for you. We actively evaluate cutting-edge technologies and work with Java 7

(as well as some akka /scala  / clojure and server-side JS) We pay very well and just opened our DC office. Please email me a resume if interested. No recruiters, please. I have attached the job req below. Please keep in mind that we are open-minded and hire for general fit to the firm. So if you are competent in java and fit in well, we’d love to chat with you. We aren’t interested in squeezing you into a very specific list of skills. That being said, I have attached a broad job req below.

Core Java Architect / Developer

Lab49 – Washington DC

Job Description

Lab49’s Java projects are usually involved in building server-side applications which encapsulate the workflow, processing, and business logic of our clients’ core trading business. These may be systems to manage the pricing of large portfolios of instruments; service-oriented architectures for building truly decoupled distributed systems; or data grid implementations for large-scale data-intensive applications.

Sometimes our projects include a web front-end component to them, so familiarity with Java-based web technologies can be a benefit but is not always strictly a requirement.

Desired Skills & Experience

* Professional software development experience
* Strong grasp of software design patterns and effective development methodologies
* Demonstrated experience writing commercial-grade software applications
* Deep understanding of multithreading and real-time software architectures
* Driven to produce software of the highest quality through self-discipline, clear and engaged communication, and attention to detail
* An abiding interest in and competence for solving real-world business problems (with technology as an enabler)
* Ability to communicate effectively and to influence client strategy, tactics, and perceptions
* Determination to succeed despite obstacles and challenges, and a positive attitude favoring achievement of goals over open-ended investigation
* Highly productive software developer with the proven aptitude to understand and apply technology
* Resourcefulness and independence
* BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
