Thanks, Everyone, for your interest in getting the club going again! I think we're going to have a lot of fun. Daphne, thanks so much for setting this up at Reiter's Books; it will be nice to have a comfortable place where we can relax and socialize.
Some of you have e-mailed me about your specific interest in mathematics - for example, operations research (OR), number theory, applied mathematics and physics, etc. Please keep the suggestions coming as they are all good, and they may be used in future meetups.
The plan for the meetup on July 10 is this:
Relax, meet, and greet (I have an icebreaker we can use.) over coffee and snacks...
Put our noggins together to solve a problem from some area of mathematics (I will bring the problem.).
One of our members, Dave, will bring his laptop on which he will do a 20-min demo of an OR problem using Mathematica.
Wrap up and talk about what day works best for the next meetup
That's the whole plan; I envision the meetup lasting about 90 minutes, but that's just a guess.
Well, I hope to see you on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Reiter's Books (1900 G St NW - Nearest Metro Station is Faragut West, which is 0.42 mi from Reiter's); enjoy the rest of your week.
