Join Scala-DC-MD-Nova, hatch IT, and QOMPLX for an exciting evening of food, drink, networking, and learning.
This will be a stimulating event whether you're new to Scala or an old pro. Tyler Horton, Principle Software Engineer, will present Motivating Scala. There will be opportunities for networking and asking questions before and after the presentation.
"Motivating Scala" is a high-level examination of the key advantages for using Scala as your primary development language. Some of the topics to be covered include functional programming paradigms, code brevity, and JVM interoperability. Attendees will leave the talk feeling enthused about using Scala in both their professional organizations and personal projects!
During his past three years with QOMPLX, Tyler has worked extensively with Scala, Spark, Akka, Kafka, Flink, and related technologies to develop distributed components for the Q:OS platform. One of the reasons Tyler was drawn to QOMPLX in 2016 was the company’s commitment to this exciting tech stack. Tyler was introduced to Scala and the supporting ecosystem in 2013 by his previous employer where he developed integrations with Uber, Google Calendar, Microsoft Exchange, SMS providers and many more.
Tyler began his career at MIT where he worked as a research assistant at the Artificial Intelligence Lab while also earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in computer science. He has worked with a variety of technologies and companies ranging from Fortune 500 to early startups. QOMPLX’s small, fast-paced environment has proven to be the most rewarding and engaging for Tyler as he enthusiastically promotes Scala internally as well as in public forums.
