• June Meeting - Brainstorming and Creating a Plan for Your Blog
What are your blogging plans for the rest of the year? The June meeting is going to be a big idea session. We want to help each other come up with as many ideas as possible, then create a doable plan to accomplish whatever goal you decide on, be it an eBook, a giveaway, or pitches to other blogs. There won't be a meeting in July due to the holiday. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

  • April Monthly Get-together - Creating Attention-Grabbing Blog Post Titles
Hi, all! This month we are going to have an activity instead of a speaker. We are going to create the next 3 blog titles for our blogs as a group. There is a bit of twist, but I will save that for the day of. Plus there is a prize. Since everyone is so busy, readers aren't apt to read your post unless the title is catchy. So, we want to get their attention to increase traffic. AND this will help you generate content and plan your editorial calendars. You can build your post around the title like you would build an outfit around a gorgeous pair shoes or a delicious meal create to showcase a specific meat dish. I scoped out this location. (No blowing fans, big room that smells good, close to Metro and Maryland line. Oh and free!) I am not sure about parking, but anything is better than where we were. I hope to see you! Until then...have fun! Spring is here! April

  • Let's Get Social: Using Social Media to Build Traffic
In March, we're following up on the Blogging 101 overview with something a little more specific. Our very own April will be talking about how to use social media to drive traffic to your blog. We'll once again be at the Cleveland Park Library, this time in the second floor meeting room. Doors will open at noon, there'll be some time to socialize and network, and we have the room until 1:30 p.m. This will once again be recorded (and, yes, I know I haven't posted the February recording yet... hoping to put it together this week/weekend)... but nothing beats being there in person.

  • Blogging 101 Presentation
As promised, we're kicking off a series of more focused, educational presentations this year. The first one, presented by Kier, is a down and dirty Blogging 101 rundown. It will focus on the absolute necessities for getting in the whole blogging "game," determining what your own metrics for success are, and how you can meet them. Kier's been online since 1993-ish and has seen more than a couple of waves of blogging come and go. Over the years, he's maintained a handful of blogs (most of which are gathering digital dust right now), participated on numerous online message boards (including the precursors to today's popular social media platforms), and maintains a pretty darn active Facebook presence. Most recently, he closed out 2015 with 100 days of daily video blogs (which was far from the most sensible project he ever took on). Kier's also the organizer of the DC Bloggers group (so, yes, he *has* been writing about himself in third person this entire time...) The event will take place in the First Floor Auditorium of the Cleveland Park Library in DC. Show up early or hang around after to check out some of the places to eat, drink, and hang out in the area. (There are no refreshments planned for the event... so eat before it starts, or hold out for a late lunch.) The presentation itself will run between 20 and 40 minutes (at most), so there will be plenty of time for Q&A afterward as well as any other discussion that comes up.

  • January Get-Together: Kicking off the New Year Right
Yeah, the holidays got in the way of getting ahead on this, so we'll run with the La Madeleine in Bethesda again. Think of this as just a nice little kick-off to the year. A bit of a pep talk, some information sharing, and some discussion on things to come. We're likely going to start some more in-depth conversations/presentations at the meetups (starting in February, as long as the weather doesn't conspire against us). And we want as much input as possible. Now's the time to start that. It's going to be a great year. :)

  • December Get-Together
Okay... November's meeting went pretty well. A handful of us braved the weather and had some good discussions and did a great job of encouraging each other when it came to our blogging goals. We're looking to continue that sort of networking, support, and education. Location is la Madeleine Country French Café in Bethesda this time around. We'll be using this meeting to plan for how we're going to tackle things with this group in the new year.

  • DC Bloggers Reorganizational Get-Together
Okay, it's been a (really) long time coming, but there's finally a date and location for this. That's the Busboy's & Poets just a couple of blocks down from the Takoma Park Metro (on the Red Line). We'll get together, commandeer an area and just hang out for a bit, talking about blogs and what we want this group to be and stuff. Nothing too intense. If, for some reason, B&P is packed that day, we'll mull about and come up with an alternate plan on the fly. Sorry it's taken so long (uh, years, oops) to make this happen. Life has been... crazy. (Props to Grace and April B. for poking at this event's message stream to help nudge things along.)
