Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on November 8, 2013 and was recorded as the most powerful tropical storms to reach landfall anywhere in the world. It brought torrential rain, sustained winds of over 195mph and a storm surge of up to 30 feet.  Thousands of lives were taken and those who survived were forced from their homes and are in desperate need of aid.

News reports have warned that the recovery of Typhoon Haiyan is going to be a long operation. Official partners of Red Cross Philippines, LBC Express, located at 6306 Gravel Avenue Unit B, Alexandria, VA, 22310, will be opening their warehouse doors on Saturday, November 30, 2013, 9am-6pm, to collect essential items for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.  They are hoping for donations in the form of:

· CANNED FOOD (please ensure expiry dates are from February 2014 onwards)

· MEDICINE

· SURVIVAL EQUIPMENT (tents, blankets, flashlight, batteries etc)

· TOILETRIES

· CLOTHING (in good condition)

· BOTTLES OF WATER

Please consider donating to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.  All items collected will be shipped to the Red Cross Philippines, by LBC Express, free of charge.

Words cannot express how thankful we are for all the people who came out to support yesterday! It was hard to count boxes but we ended up with 16 crates (translation = pallet) of boxes, 1 large crate of water and 1 crate of rice. We were also able to donate a van worth of clothes and shoes to Goodwill and DC homeless shelter. THANK YOU to all those who donated and volunteered. You all ROCK!

    Dear all,

I just received a phone call from LBC manager stating that the company has run out of boxes. The delivery of new boxes will not arrive in time for Saturday's event due to the thanksgiving holiday. We will still open the warehouse doors on Saturday and accept donations for victims of Typhoon Haiyan. However, as there are no boxes to fill, we will simply be sorting through goods and storing this until the boxes arrive. If you have spare boxes at home, we would be grateful if you could bring those on Saturday. VOLUNTEERS: We have received an overwhelming response from volunteers willing to help out. We have been talking about splitting up the day into 2 shifts: 9am-1pm and 1pm-6pm. This will help us to keep the momentum on the day. Please indicate your shift preference. Also the level of donations will not be known until the day. If you would like updates of the days progress prior to coming down, please contact me on[masked] 2329.

Thanks all and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    Karen

I am leading the event in conjunction with the Manager of LBC Express, Steven Nethercott. You can contact me on[masked] or at [masked]. That is great news that you have an organizations that wants to support. If it's in the form of donations, please refer to the drop-off details (just updated it now). I am not promoting cash/check collections at the event, but I won't turn these away either! There is a list of organizations you can donate to at this link: http://www.cnn.com/20...
