Maryland and DC Area Game Night Pages

Party Games! Euro Games! All sorts of games, you won't be bored at our Board games meetups. Some of our current favorites: Celebrity, Werewolf, Say Anything, Settlers of Catan, and many more.

We do a lot of laughing and building friendships. There are many choices of games and everyone's input is appreciated.

What sorts of games do you play?
A wide range of social and party games are enjoyed at our events, along with an occasional European style strategy game event and even some homemade games by some creative local game inventors and enthusiasts. Though we're called a "Boardgames" group, we often play games that don't involve a board per se.

I really like the group and appreciate what y'all do to keep it going. How can I help?
The most outstanding and much-needed role is that of host for a game night - we really respect and venerate those who offer up a space in their home where we can meet. For more info on being a host, see below. I also welcome those who would like to become assistant organizers and help with scheduling, hosting, and originating ideas for future game night events. We also ask that each member remember to donate $2 to the game night "money jar" at each event, this helps cover fees and various other expenses related to the parties. Finally, it is always good to get positive feedback on the meetup pages if you had fun. If you have any feedback at all, please get in touch with me through the site - my email box is always open!

I'm really competitive and like to talk trash and get in people's face. Will I fit in?
Probably not. These game nights are more about socializing and having fun, not winning at all costs or taking blows to the ego. :) Jesting in fun is certainly encouraged, of course.

Why do you generally only hold events in northern Montgomery County? I live in Virginia or DC and it's a long haul to your house!
We do not limit ourselves to any one place, but rather on the locations of interested hosts. Since we find it's more fun and friendly to meet at a member's home rather than a bar or restaurant, we are limited to venues volunteered by our members. Our most prolific repeat hosts mostly live in or near Gaithersburg although we get occasional hosts in other areas such as Greenbelt and Arlington. We will go wherever there is a willing host. If you want a Game Night closer to your area and cannot be a host, we recommend checking to find other active game Meetups in your area.

I'm interested in hosting but not sure what to expect - what is involved?
All you need to have is space for game players. You can host as few as 8 people and as many as 30, though most Game Nights are in the 12-20 range. Regarding food, you can have the attendees bring pot luck items, just snacks, chip in to order pizza, or forgo food altogether - it's up to you. I can work with you to create a party that you and all will enjoy. If you would like assistance with cleanup, cooking, funding of a grocery shopping trip or whatever, just let me know in advance and I will arrange it.

I'm in my 50s but I like to play games too. Why do you limit the age range of your members?
A long time ago when the group started, the decision was made to limit the age range from 21 to 49. This restriction is not really enforced, so consider yourself welcome.
