Hello Berlin Kubernauts!
November has arrived and we are getting together at Contentful in just a couple weeks.
The first presentation is: CoreDNS-nodecache - A Highly-Available Node-Local DNS Cache
Yann Hamon & Karthik Viswanathan will explain a Kubernetes add-on that proposes running a DNS caching server on all of a cluster's nodes. The goal is to avoid "DNS timeout" issues. The suggested caching server is node-cache, a thin wrapper around CoreDNS. It handles the setup and teardown of the dummy network interface and associated iptables rules. Coredns-nodecache is an attempt to implement node-cache as a CoreDNS plugin, rather than a wrapper - providing high-availability and a simpler configuration.
The second presentation is: Autoscaling with Kubernetes
Johannes Würbach will lead us on a deep dive into various forms of Kubernetes autoscaling. He will cover cluster autoscaling, built-in horizontal pod autoscaling, custom metrics horizontal pod autoscaling, and vertical pod autoscaling. This presentation explains each of those terms and how they work. Johannes will also provide some guidance on when you should consider using one or more of them.
