It's been a while but we get it rollin' again. Join us for another Web Performance Meetup in Berlin. We have a great lineup with talks by Sven Wolfermann (@maddesigns (https://twitter.com/maddesigns)), Martin Sonnenholzer (@chaos_monster (https://twitter.com/chaos_monster)) and Radimir Bitsov (@radibit (https://twitter.com/radibit)) at Contentful (https://www.contentful.com/).

Foods and drinks are provided by Catchpoint (https://www.catchpoint.com/).

Martin Sonnenholzer started as a software developer building Java applications. Then, a few years ago he moved from the backend to the frontend. While developing large Angular applications he learnt that building great products also means writing performant JavaScript.

Sven Wolfermann is a freelance web developer with focus on modern front-end development living in Berlin. He is an expert in „Responsive Web Design“ and shares his knowledge while speaking at events or giving workshops. He cares about web standards, user experience, accessiblity and performance optimization. Since 2003 he supports agencies and companies with their project work with his company “maddesigns”. On Twitter you’ll find Sven as @maddesigns.

Radimir Bitsov is a front-end developer with a passion for web performance and accessibility. He is a follower of the clean, intuitive and engaging UI/UX standards and as a self-learner he is looking everyday to expand and share his knowledge and skills. He can be found on Twitter as @radibit.

Schedule:

• 6:30PM - doors open

• 7:00PM - "A look under the hood - how the browser optimizes your JS code" by Martin Sonnenholzer

Martin's talk will take a look at the Chrome desktop browser and its internal engine. How does it render JavaScript? What kind of code do you have to write for the browser to transform it into machine code? What is performant JavaScript code? Let's find out.

• 7:30PM - "Responsive & Fast" by Sven Wolfermann

Is Responsive Web Design (RWD) slowing your site down? It doesn't have to. There are a variety of technical solutions how to get a responsive website fast. Responsive Web Design expert Sven Wolfermann walks you through several existing solutions for dealing with RWD performance problems, and offers advice for choosing optimizations that will be most useful for your needs. Besides general optimizations Sven shows how to use responsive images and optimize font loading.

• 8:00PM - "What you see is faster than what you get – ways to speed up perception" by Radimir Bitsov

How do users perceive time? Why is it important to achieve better performance perception in comparison to the actual expectation? How can we be good to our users, and care more about their experience? Radimir's talk will focus on these questions by presenting insights, practical techniques, and an overview of the experiential aspect of web performance.
