coding berlin: graph, ql, cms and a bit of elm
According to our bimonthly schedule we're happy to announce our 5th meetup in 2018. It's going to happen on November, 22nd at the beautiful office of honeypot.io in the far end of Kreuzberg (Schlesische Straße 26, close to U1/U3 Schlesisches Tor, check the Schienenersatzverkehr if you're a metro user ;) ). Doors will be open around 6:30pm and talks will start by 7pm. This time we decided to open up the topic a little; but to make it as remarkable as all recent coding berlin meetups, GraphQL and its applications are supposed to be its gravitational center. We're proud to announce that our friends from GraphCMS (https://graphcms.com/) would like to take care of the amenities at our November's meetup. They will give a talk on their GraphQL based CMS (as a service) and how to build applications with it in no time. Thanks a lot, GraphCMS & honeypot for making everything possible, we highly appreciate your support for the community :) The talks: 1 Jesse Martin (GraphCMS): Faster Go-to-Market with GraphCMS How a headless CMS and a powerful new spec can reduce your time to market and make developers happy in the process. 2 Tino: Nightmare on elm street Tino invites us on a sweet ride into the advantages of elm_lang and shows us why runtime errors are so yesterday. 3 Bernd and Stefan: Seeds and bricks of GraphQL Bernd will show us the very basic building blocks of a GraphQL based application utilizing Apollo Server & Client. Stefan gives a 10m condensed overview of "api-platform" that makes building GraphQL-APIs on top of Rest & Swagger an absolute no-brainer. Do you remember that sheet of paper I asked you to put your name on last time at Prince Charles? If you did, chances are good that you get your very own, highly personalized and insanely cool coding berlin tshirt on 11/22 so make sure to be there to grab it! If you didn't, maybe you still get one but without your personal hashtag on it ;) Stay healthy, happy and hopeful. We're looking forward seeing you in great numbers on Nov 22nd!

    Worum es bei uns geht

Coding Berlin is a home for developers of all skill levels. Everybody's welcome, everyone's invited, everyone will take something home from our meetups. This is not your usual "experts talk, audience listens" kind of experience but a community driven meetup that embraces a knowledge exchange culture as well as a strict "nice to have you here"-attitude.

Isn’t it amazing how many technologies you have to learn to follow the path of modern software development? Be it blockchains for storing transactions, machines taking decisions based upon digital learning sets, virtual clusters providing computing power for scaled applications and command line tools that improve your workflow: it’s nearly impossible to keep an eye on everything.

That’s where we jump in: Instead of specialising on a dedicated topic, coding berlin was established to become a hub meetup for Berlin’s coder community: every software development related topic is welcome here, every developer with whatever skill level will take away something new on every session, every question may be asked and everyone should have a good time. There’s only one golden rule: don’t bore us with bs, talks have to be hands on, the must contain at least 1 line of code and in the best case they’re massively supported by demos.

We are looking forward to your ideas for upcoming meetups. If you want to share any of your knowledge with a highly motivated community, this is the right place. If you want to demonstrate a software stack that you’re using in your startup, this is the place to present. If you seek for an opportunity to spread the evangelism of the next big programming language: give a talk at coding berlin. We’re embracing developers and we’re just waiting for you.

Here are some golden rules of coding berlin:

    • we neither care about your gender, your skin tone, your religious views, the language your mother taught you nor your heritage or favorite science fiction series, we only care about you as a developer.

    • no marketing, no recruiting, only tech and if possible: code (lets consider yaml valid, and of course you may announce that your company is hiring)

    • don't bash one technology in favor of another without giving a concrete reason (Ruby is sh*t, Rust is much better, you know the game)

    • one demo gets you rid of 10 slides so don't be shy and type live, we're all developers so we'll only laugh at obvious typos

    • as soon as 1 person is around who doesn't understand German we switch to English (exceptions must be announced and if she doesn't understand English as well we ran out of options).

    • if your English is bad, talk more of it, it helps (for real!)

    • food is not always free, but maybe you get a t-shirt

    • everyone can become a developer

    • everyone can become a better developer

    • being a bad developer doesn't make you a bad person

    • there are no bad developers

    • you do talk about coding berlin

We also have our own Slack: codingberlin.slack.com - Shoot us a message if you want to help planning upcoming meetups, workshops, coding dojos or even hackathons. If you want to promote your developer related event: let us know, we're glad to support you, lets see if we can help!
