Join us for this FilmTech Meetup and an evening full of

Insights | Inspiration | Interaction.

During this Meetup we will explore how emotions can be tracked, processed and interpreted and how bio feedback and this new technology will impact the way films and art are made and experienced by the audience.

The Propellor | FilmTech Meetup Berlin is an event of the Propellor FilmTech Hub.

Nikos Green
CEO and Founder, Affective Signals

Nikos will give an overview on the current state of things regarding the gathering, processing and interpretation of the viewer's bio-feedback, their mental state and emotions while they watch audiovisual content.

Nikos is a former scientist turned entrepreneur who translates scientific methods & research findings into solutions to problems. As CEO he is hands-on in all domains of Affective Signals while keeping the big picture in mind.

Jens-Uwe Garbas
Group Manager Intelligent Systems, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits

Jens will talk about ongoing efforts to establish a crowd emotion induction and sensing lab: A 70-seat digital 3-D cinema laboratory will be equipped with cameras and a range of sensors capturing audience reactions. This will allow fundamental insights on how to elicit, understand and measure emotions of individuals and crowds. It could be also a place to offer automatic content rating as a service.

After his PhD in Electrical Engineering Jens joined Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen that reached worldwide recognition with the creation of mp3 and the co-development of AAC. Since 2011 he is heading the “Intelligent Systems” team where he is responsible for industrial and public research projects as well as software licensing in the area of real-time computer vision and facial analysis. His vision is to build a bridge from emotional intelligence to artificial intelligence by bringing together researchers from different domains and disciplines under the umbrella of “affective sensing” research.

The iOS app Movie Pulse records the audience's heart rate during a movie and evaluates the screening graphically. Using the heartbeat as an objective physiological assessment of a cinema event surprisingly reaches back to the time of D.W. Griffith's. (

Emolyzr: we measure emotions in 3D. By means of neuroscientific technology we are able to measure spontaneous and natural reactions of your target group in response to trailers, advertisement and films. We do so with high accuracy in time and space. These insights directly help to increase interest, brand image, top of mind, efficiency of product placement and media budget.
