Have you ever wondered how Facebook is able to automatically display your Instagram photos? How about how Evernote syncs notes between your computer and smartphone? If so, then it’s time to get excited!

We'll walk you through what it takes to link different IT systems together thanks to this common tool called an Application Programming Interface (API).

We will start off easy, explaining the basics of (web) APIs:

• what they are

• how they work

• why they matter

We'll use examples of Airbnb, Uber, Timeout and many more, and how API's generate incredible features we use everyday on the web.


betahaus ( is a well established coworking space and in over 5000 sqm it hosts many freelancers and companies. Moreover, it features both, a fully equipped woodshop as well as a hardware lab including a Makerbot, Oscilloscopes, and FLIR Cams (don't even ask...). The café has two levels, delicious beer, and some artwork that I'd love to "borrow" (permanently!).
