Predominantly, the hike follows grassy clifftops and contains some steep ascents and descents, but absolutely worth the effort! Starting from the historic fishing port of Porthleven, the path will take us to Loe Bar, Cornwall’s largest natural body of freshwater and believed to be the resting place of King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur. The path will then continue to the picturesque medieval church of St. Winwaloe looking down on the golden sand of Church Cove Beach, then to the lovely sandy beach of Poldhu Cove. From here, Guglielmo Marconi transmitted the first transatlantic radio signal to Newfoundland in 1901. We will then head to the famous Kynance Cove with its white sand, turquoise sea and colourful serpentine rock stacks - an absolute gem, and one of the most beautiful and photographed beaches in the UK. Sunday - Bodinnick to Talland Bay: The first part of our walk is a 5-kilometre stretch between Bodinnick and the old fishing village of Polruan, through woodland and creek with striking views over Fowey Harbour, the estuary and out to sea. From Polruan, the trail will continue along the clifftop and become progressively more difficult, with several steep climbs and descents. On our way, we will pass the magnificent Lantic Bay, with its golden sands and turquoise blue clear water, and climb to Pencarrow Head, with views extending as far as Lizard Point to the east. The highlights of the hike include Lansallos Cove, dramatic scenery from Raphael and Chapel Cliffs, and the quaint old Cornish fishing village of Polperro with narrow streets and pretty cottages. Our hike will finish at the secluded, unspoilt Talland Bay, where we will get refreshments (and perhaps go for a swim!) before our journey back to London.
