    # Python Users Berlin @ co.up ## Timetable * 19:00 setting up * 19:10 introductions * 19:15 OpenTelemetry - Alban * 19:45 What's coming in Python 3.8 * 20:15 Lightning Talks * 20:35 closing down * 20:45 Restaurant ## OpenTelemetry - Alban OpenTelemetry is a collection of APIs and libraries as well as a collection mechanism via an agent and collector. These components are used to generate, collect, and describe telemetry about distributed systems. The OpenTelemetry project comes from OpenCensus and OpenTracing merging together this summer. OpenTracing and OpenCensus plan to shutdown in November when OpenTelemetry is ready to be used in main languages (Java, Golang, Python, NodeJS, C#). This talk is about my exploration of distributed tracing in Python. I'll first introduce some concepts of distributed tracing, namely traces and spans, and how they can be correlated in a distributed system with trace context propagation formats in HTTP (B3 Propagation or W3C Trace Context). Then, I'll present some Python libraries: opentracing-python (currently stable) and opentelemetry-python (currently in development). * https://github.com/opentracing/opentracing-python * https://github.com/census-instrumentation/opencensus-python * https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python I will show a demo based on Yuri Shkuro's Python opentracing-tutorial. ## What's coming in Python 3.8 Are you following all the discussion on the official Python mailing lists? Do you spend a couple of hours reading the new PEP proposals, and more on the ones that are recently accepted? If the answer is no, lay back and enjoy this presentation on all the amazing features that are coming with Python 3.8. The talk will be based on the included features on the latest 3.8 snapshot: https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-380b3/ ## Lightning Talks Do you have a little project that require new collaborators? Are you organizing or know an event that you want to advertise? Did you discover something and want to share it with everyone? Share it with us! A lightning talk is a presentation shorter than 10 minutes. Keep it brief and concise with your material. ## Restaurant At about 8:45 pm we'll move to a nearby Thai restaurant. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Chaapa+Viet+%26+Thai+-+in+Berlin+Kreuzberg+f%C3%BCr+original+thail%C3%A4ndische+und+vietnamesische+K%C3%BCche/@52.5006806,13.4189231,19z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sco.up!3m4!1s0x47a84e3382a9b541:0xc0136a115a7f3b17!8m2!3d52.5007937!4d13.4191071?hl=en

Golfing will take the best of you, but also it's a double-edged sword: once you start golfing too much, then you will start seeing everything like on a golf field and would try to smash whatever you have in front of you, so you need to be careful. ** Topic 2 Topic(s) not fixed yet. Please feel free to make suggestions to the organizers! ** Lightning Talks A lightning talk is a presentation shorter than 10 minutes. Keep it brief and concise with a lot of slides and code.

    * Python Meetup at expertlead ** Timetable - 19:00 Pizza and arriving - 20:00 Griode, a music instrument written in Python - 20:30 Practical introduction to Dodo Commands - 21:00 Lightningtalks ** Griode, a music instrument written in Python Crafting a music instrument used to be a delicate art requiring thousands of hours of meticulous work. Not anymore! We will present Griode (https://github.com/jpetazzo/griode), an open source project written in Python that uses the Novation LaunchPad (a popular MIDI controller) and some open source components, libraries, and sound samples, to create a custom instrument that everyone can play, even if they don't know neither music, nor Python. *** About the speaker Jérôme was part of the team that built, scaled, and operated the dotCloud PAAS, before it became Docker. He worked seven years at the famous container company, wearing various hats. When he's not glued to a computer screen, he collects musical instruments. He can passably murder the theme of Zelda on a dozen of them. ** Practical introduction to Dodo Commands Dodo Commands is a tool that helps you to automate your local development environment. It allows you to create projects that each have a set of Python command scripts (*) and a set of configuration files. In this talk I will do a live demo of automating a task with Dodo Commands. Specifically, I will show how to: - add a new command script - use the project configuration in a script - customize a command by enabling configuration layers - share scripts and configurations with the rest of the team - run command scripts in docker If there is enough time, I will also go into some of the design choices I made in order to implement these features. (*) In theory, other languages can also be supported. ** Lightning Talks A lightning talk is a presentation shorter than 10 minutes. Keep it brief and concise with a lot of slides and code.
