Worum es bei uns geht

This is the Meetup Group for the Singleaires activity section of the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club.

We have hikes every Sunday followed by social events hosted at members' homes. Our hikes are open to the public. Social events are for members of Sierra Singleaires, or for guests of members who go on that day's hike and who are acceptable to the host as a guest. (As social events are held in private homes all attendance is at the discretion of the host.)

We list only our hikes and a few featured events on this Meetup site for the public to attend. We also have other activities for paid up members of the Sierra Singleaires.

The primary listing of all of our hikes and events is the Sierra Singleaires Schedule. It is mailed every three months to all paid up Sierra Singleaires Activities Group members as well as being e-mailed to them. If you are not a member of the Sierra Singleaires you are missing out on members-only social events, campouts, backpacking, mule packs in the Sierra Nevada, parties, group e-mail, and other special events.

Becoming a Member of Sierra Singleaires

Members are Sierra Club members who generally are over 50 and single, but membership is open to all who are interested in furthering conservation activities as well as participating in weekend hikes, cycling, backpacking, car camping trips, snow activities and other events. Guests are always welcome on our scheduled hikes. If you are not already a member of the Sierra Club, you can take advantage of this special membership offer. 3C Hike, Purisima Creek Redwoods OSP

13102 Skyline Blvd

➤ 12.5 mi, 2969 ft. This is a “grand loop” moderately trafficked and challenging trail. We’ll start at the main entrance off Skyline Blvd. We’ll traverse both sides of the canyon, descending on the steep North Ridge to Harkins Ridge and Craig Britton Trails. We’ll have lunch off Purisima Creek Trail and return on the steep Harkins Ridge Trail that will take us back to the trailhead parking lot. Horses and bikes also use this trail in some sections. Most of the trails are shaded but with open areas heading back. Be prepared for a steep uphill hike after lunch. Hiking poles, hiking boots and at least 2 liters of water are strongly recommended. Directions: From Skyline and CA-92 intersection drive 4.3 miles south on Skyline, OR from Skyline and CA-84 drive 7.8 north on Skyline to the North (main) parking lot. Leaders: Amira Abedrabbo, Irene Carter Carpool: Palo Alto 8:30, Redwood City 8:45 GPS: 13102 Skyline Blvd., Redwood City[masked], [masked] ➤ Car Pool Information ( http://www.meetup.com/Singleaires/pages/CARPOOLS/ ) ➤ Singleaires Hiking Information ( https://tinyurl.com/Singleaires-about ) SIGN-UP POLICY: Due to recurring issues, we have instituted new policy, which applies to meetup group participants who are not dues-paying Sierra Club AND Sierra Singleaires members: 1. We expect you to show up for hikes if you're signed up. If you're on the attendees list, and do not show up, you will be flagged as a no-show. 2. We expect cancellations to be made by end of day Friday, prior to the hike. Cancelling after midnight Friday without a compelling reason will be counted as a no-show. 3. Three no-shows will constitute grounds for ejection from the meetup group. 4. Reserving places on multiple hikes at the same time will not be tolerated. We do understand that you may sign up for one hike while being on the waiting list for another hike you would prefer. Once you have become an attendee of the second hike, you have 24 hours to take yourself off the attendees list of either hike. Failing to do so will result in the organizers removing your reservation for one of the hikes. Repeated incidents of this behavior will constitute grounds for ejection from the meetup group. 5. Bringing guests to hikes will not be permitted, unless the hike leader has specifically allowed for this, and then you will need to sign up as usual as an attendee with a +1 -- not show up at the hike asking for permission. The best idea if you want someone to come is to get them to join the meetup group and sign up for the hike like everyone else. 6. We expect better behavior from dues-paying Sierra Singleaires members, so don't think that if you're a paid-up member, you can flout the rules. (And yes, if you're not paid up, you're not a member.) These rules are designed to allow as many people as possible to enjoy our hikes. We want hikers to be able to plan their weekends, and not have to wait until the last minute to find out if they got on a hike or not. We do not want people left on the waiting list, unable to attend, when there are actually places available because someone did not show up. Please be respectful of your fellow hikers, on and off the trail.

2A Hike, Wunderlich County Park

3C Hike, Pescadero Creek County Park

Camp Pomponio Road

➤ 10 mi, 2000 ft gain, 6 hours. Starting from the Tarwater trailhead southeast into Portola State Park. Pleasant, mostly shaded down and up and down and up trails through redwood and Doug fir forests, varied woodlands and over streams. The hike starts on the Coyote Ridge trail, which goes into Portola State Park. Note: parts of the Coyote Ridge trail were overgrown with poison oak in the summer; long pants are recommended. We’ll continue down the Inversion Trail to Tiptoe Falls, then go back into Pescadero Creek Park, up the Portola Trail and see if there’s still a trickle in Falls Creek Falls. We’ll continue to the Butano Ridge Trail and follow it down to Old Haul Road and visit the twisted old tree trunk on the Snag Trail. Then it’s uphill on the east side of the Tarwater Trail Loop, past a granddaddy redwood on the way back to the trailhead. In addition to the poison oak, gnats may be a problem - consider bringing a head-net or bandanna. There will be multiple stream crossings including bridges and easy rock hopping or walking on logs. Directions from the bay: Take your best route to the intersection of Skyline Blvd (CA-35) and Page Mill Road on the east, Alpine Road on the West. Go west on Alpine Road 3.9 miles and turn left (or rather go straight) onto Camp Pomponio Rd. It’s 0.4 miles past Portola State Park Road. There is a "Pescadero Creek County Park" sign before the road entrance on the left, but it’s easy to miss –- it’s almost behind you. Note: If you see Rancho de la Bana, you’ve just passed it! Directions from the coast: From CA-1 go east on CA-84 for 8.2 miles, right onto Pescadero Creek Road, straight onto Alpine Road, then turn right onto Camp Pomponio Road (3.6 miles). All: Once on the narrow, rutted Camp Pomponio Road, go approximately 0.9 miles to the parking lot on left. Carpools: Los Gatos 8:15, Palo Alto 8:30 Leader: Cheryl Heiner GPS: Camp Pomponio Rd, La Honda[masked],[masked] ➤ Car Pool Information ( http://www.meetup.com/Singleaires/pages/CARPOOLS/ ) ➤ Singleaires Hiking Information ( https://tinyurl.com/Singleaires-about ) SIGN-UP POLICY: Due to recurring issues, we have instituted new policy, which applies to meetup group participants who are not dues-paying Sierra Club AND Sierra Singleaires members: 1.
