Worum es bei uns geht

ThoughtWorks is a software consultancy - and a community of passionate, purpose-led individuals. We have one mission: We think disruptively to deliver technology to address our clients' toughest challenges, all while seeking to revolutionize the IT industry and create positive social change.

We are intentional about making technology a better place for all. ThoughtWorkers are encouraged to stand up, speak up, and advocate for who and what they believe in. We host events and talks tackling intersectionality, discrimination and bias in tech because we believe conversations create understanding and diversity in organizations and thinking.

Here you are free to learn and to share on any platform. Free to feel safe in your own skin. Free to follow your latest curiosity to an unknown place. Free to challenge ideas, assumptions, and solutions - no matter who they belong to (respectfully). Free to experiment and recommend the right tech without bias. Free to change career paths. Free to make technology a better place for all.

We like to share our knowledge and would like to invite you to become part of this meetup group to stay up to date with our latest events - you don't have to be a ThoughtWorker to join this community :)

Our venue in Berlin is a barrier free non-smoking area. The toilets are wheelchair accessible.

----------

TW presents: Forecasting and beyond - Software Delivery without estimating?

### TW PRESENTS: Forecasting and beyond - Software Delivery without estimating? #NoEstimates Game + Q&A with Vasco Duarte ### Are your goals on track for your New Year's resolutions? Yes? This is great! No? Bummer! Not sure? You, like most of us, might need some more support in forecasting the future. This event is here to help you with that - at least when we talk about software delivery but maybe also in other life domains. In this Meetup, your basic assumptions about the role of estimation will be challenged. And we will share how to be sure to deliver on time, no matter whether you use estimates or not! You already know that many things go wrong, no matter how well you try to estimate. People are assigned 10% to a project, or work in 4 different projects at the same time. Managers fight to get experts assigned to their projects, and that creates unforeseen delays and problems. Not to mention illnesses, people changing jobs, promotions, etc. Forget all of that. You can account for all of those “unexpected” events. And you can do it without estimates! Yes, without estimates! We'll be running the famous #NoEstimates Game -- and we’ll look into cases where estimation is the core failure pattern in projects, and why they happen. We’ll look into how to overcome those failure patterns, and help you know what is the real progress in your project without asking all the teams to sit down and endlessly discuss what the size of a story is. ### AGENDA ### 18.00 Arrival 18.15 Short Intro: #NoEstimates & the Game 18.25 Start of the Game ˜20.45* Reflection, Learning and Q&A with Vasco Duarte ˜22.00* Further Networking & Exchange ˜22.30* End *This may vary depending on the size of the group, the time we want to play, and the time we take to reflect afterward. [ Bonus: If you are interested in learning the details of how to do it, Vasco Duarte is organizing a 1-day workshop where we dive deeper into the techniques and tools that allow you to put #NoEstimates into action and save your project! To know more about the full-day #NoEstimates Workshop & Product Owner Success Toolkit Workshop, September 3rd and 4th, go here: http://bit.ly/WorkshopsBerlin ] ### ABOUT THE PRESENTER ### # Vasco Duarte, Author of #NoEstimates, Speaker & Co-Founder at Oikosofy Product Manager, Scrum Master, Project Manager, Director, Agile Coach - only some of the roles that he has taken in software development organizations. Having worked in the software industry since 1997, and Agile practitioner since 2004. He has worked in small, medium and large software organizations as an Agile Coach or leader in agile adoption at those organizations. He was one of the leaders of Agile methods and Agile culture adoption at Avira, Nokia, F-Secure. # Alexander Steinhart Alexander Steinhart has a background in psychology and technology. His background in science and lean start-up has led him to re-question many of the common assumptions. He works with ThoughtWork's clients to assure and optimize all the way from pre-vision to execution and continuous delivery of value to the customer. His passion is realigning technology, the way we work and the time we spent within the best interests of humanity to create real social change.
