19:10 A talk by Elisabeth Reitmayr
19:50 Open mic
Our speaker, Elisabeth Reitmayr, manages the data and insights team at ResearchGate, a social network for scientists. Before joining ResearchGate, she worked in a small analytics agency that she had founded with two friends, and as a financial analyst at Allianz.
Elisabeth is particularly excited about the potential of making scientists more productive by leveraging data and helping data analysts and data scientists grow and. Outside of her job, she is a passionate hip hop dancer and runner.
This talk addresses both managers of data teams and data scientists or data analysts interested in how they can effectively work in an embedded data team.
In her words: "During my time leading the analytics team at ResearchGate, I learned that organizational design has a huge impact on the effectiveness of data teams and on the motivation of individual data analysts and data scientists. The frequently praised “embedded model” for data teams which combines elements of a fully centralized and a fully integrated organizational design can either help to bring a company’s data maturity to the next level or – in the other extreme – deteriorate the identity and confidence of the data team.
During the talk I will discuss the benefits and challenges of the integrated vs. the centralized model of a data team, and the specific embedded model that we set up at ResearchGate. I will share my experiences on how to mitigate the challenges with an embedded model as a manager, as well as some best practices on how to effectively work in an embedded structure as a data scientist or data analyst by sharing input from my team."
