Worum es bei uns geht

Welcome to the ZZP!

The ZZP is a cycling club consisting of a friendly international group of cyclists who meet regularly for biking adventures in the Swiss alps and beyond.

GROUP RIDE: Each Saturday we meet in Zug for out weekly club ride and all levels are welcome with 3 groups departing with various speeds. The route is the same each week - approximately 80km loop around the Rigi with around 500m of climbing with an optional coffee stop in Brunnen.

MEETING POINT: We meet at 7:30am at the Speck Pfauen cafe in the Zug Old Town (Kolinplatz 19 close to the clock tower).

GROUPS: The first group and most relaxed ride (average speed 26kmph) leaves at 7:45am. The second group (average speed 30kmph) leaves at 07:55 and the third group (average speed (34kmph) leaves at 08:05.

ROUTE: We depart Zug old town, south along the Zugersee, heading around around the lake to Immensee and into Küssnacht am rigi. We then continue to Weggis and on to Brunnen for the optional coffee stop. We then typically split into smaller groups depending on rider preference. Some people head back directly to Zug, while others often head back to Zug via Sattel or beyond back to Zurich. GROUPS We continue to meet from 7.30 and to ensure a good social and safe ride for all riders of mixed abilities we continue to split into multiple groups. The the first group will depart at 07:45 average speed around 25 km /h), the second will leave at 07:55 (slightly faster average speed 27-32kmph) and the final group will depart at 08:05 (quite fast pace / 35kmph+). The second stop is at the spectacular lake front Seehotel Waldstätterhofop for an optional coffee. Some riders stop, some riders continue directly depending on individual and group preference. RIDE SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE The number one priority on our rides is safety. Below are the agreed ways in which the club rides and expects all riders to follow without exception: 1. Safety is the number one concern for the zzp and all group rides. We belie that a group ride is balance between competition but importantly collaboration to keep things smooth, social, safe but so still making it a “workout” for all. But it’s not just about Strava segment smashing. 2. The ZZP has an agreed definition of what we mean by riding in “doubles” and riding in “singles”, which we expect every ride to follow. We even created two feature length videos to explain these definitions: For "Doubles" explanation click here https://www.facebook.com/ed.newey/videos/10100117817167183/ For "Singles" explanation click here https://www.facebook.com/ed.newey/videos/10100117817371773/ 3. Groups size will ideally be a maximum of 10 and absolutely no more than 12 as exceptions. It is everyone's responsibility to keep a close group formation with no surging on the front after traffic lights / stops / climbs, no half wheeling and the group should go as fast as the slowest rider. If a rider is dropped people should communicate this to the front of the group to slow down, and then communicate again when the rider has rejoined. 4. Before each group sets off a ride leader shall give a short safety briefing which must be respected at all times during the ride. The ZZP suggests doubles from Zug - Immensee, and typically singles through to Brunnen. 5. We request that riders stay in the groups they start until Brunnen and to ensure clear separation exists (100m) between the different groups 6, All groups will be a “non-drop” ride - except the last group(s) with upfront consent from all. However even in the “fast” group - control and safety is paramount regardless of who is riding. Speed can come for sure, but only with solid and safe riding pattern and control at all times. 7. During the Brunenn "sprint" NO RIDER shall cross the middle line during the sprint and any rider will hold their line and continue efforts to the end - when sprinting to Brunnen. There will be zero tolerance on this point. 8. We expect that ALL riders in the ZZP take responsibility to implement the above criteria. 9) TT Bikes: We request any rider on TT bike shall keep both hands on the side bars / close to the breaks, and not in the forward bar position. This video of a small crash explains why! (thankfully the rider was ok and not injured) Click here (https://youtu.be/9d2LcNW7LWw) FINAL TIPS 1. While the ZZP wants to encourage all levels, the club ride does require a basic level of fitness. First time riders should be able to hold 28kmph over rolling terrain for at least 40km (first coffee stop in Brunnen). 2. Ensure you have sufficient food and water for the ride. (We recommend at least 2 bottles of 500ml and at least a few cereal bars at a minimum. 3. For those riders who are unable to do this or are unsure, on the LAST SATURDAY of each month, we will run a special "Intro Ride" where complete starters are welcome and be led to the Brunnen coffee stop in a very relaxed and easy pace "non drop" group. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us via [masked] TO SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CLUB NEWSLETTER, click here http://strava.us11.list-manage2.com/subscribe?u=2cb59629b18f22165e96fb9fb&id=3742e55ea1 Additional Note: In order to participate, you must have the basic skills to ride in a group or be willing to ride at the back of the group while learning how to do this safely. This is not a bike skills training but people, before and during the ride will be willing to help you learn how to ride safely. Insurance is the responsibility of the participant, by RSVPing "yes" you agree to act responsibly at all times on this event and to not hold the "Zug Zurich Peloton" or organizers of the "Zug Zurich Peloton", responsible for any injury
