Why AI needs Data Engineering
With the advent of AI, data engineering has become more important than ever. For this event, we have organized two presentations around this topic, to underline the importance of data engineering and the best practices to implement correct, legal, and efficient data pipelines.
- Welcome and Housekeeping
Presentation 1 : "In The Age of AI, Does Data Engineering Matter?" by Andrew Madson, Dremio
Description: We will explore the crucial role of data engineering in the era of AI. Discover why data engineering remains fundamental to analytics and AI program success and how the field is evolving to meet new challenges. Learn about:
- The enduring importance of data engineering
- How AI is reshaping data engineering practices
- Key skills for data engineers in an AI-driven landscape
- The symbiotic relationship between data engineering and AI
Presentation 2 : Best Practices in Data Engineering by Rosaria Silipo, KNIME
Data Engineering has been the silent star of data science. Machine Learning algorithms and even AI cannot work if data is messy; the company has an obligation to keep data safe and protected; data must be available to all interested parties in the form and shape they need. Those are just some of the reasons why your company relies on data engineers for its functioning: Data must be available, collected, protected, aggregated, processable, verified, and correct.
We will explore here some commonly used techniques to improve efficiency, scalability, reusability, testing, error handling, security, repeatability, and logging for all data engineering operations.- Closing and End
Meet the Speakers:
Andrew Madson is a seasoned data analytics and machine learning expert with extensive experience leading teams and developing innovative data solutions in the financial services and education sectors. He is currently a Developer Advocate - Tech Evangelist at Dremio and a graduate professor of data science at several universities.
Rosaria Silipo - Dr. Rosaria Silipo is not only an expert in data mining, machine learning, reporting, and data warehousing, she has become a recognized expert on the KNIME data mining engine, about which she has published three books: KNIME Beginner’s Luck, The KNIME Cookbook, and The KNIME Booklet for SAS Users. Previously Dr. Silipo worked as a freelance data analyst for many companies throughout Europe. She has also led the SAS development group at Viseca (Zürich), implemented the speech-to-text and text-to-speech interfaces in C# at Spoken Translation (Berkeley, California), and developed a number of speech recognition engines in different languages at Nuance Communications (Menlo Park, California). Dr. Silipo gained her doctorate in biomedical engineering in 1996 from the University of Florence, Italy.
