Here are this month’s talks:

Speaker 1: Zoe Langer

Title: What Designers Can Do For The Climate Emergency

Abstract: Most of us recognise that drastic measures need to be taken to address the emergency we’re in. Some of us might have already started to reduce our carbon footprint by flying less and avoiding plastics or animal products.

But changing our consumer behaviour isn’t enough.

How can we, as designers, use our superpowers to tackle this "wicked" problem in an effective way?

Bio: Zoe Langer is a product designer based in Berlin. She has worked for the past 10 years as things like a graphic designer in NYC, a digital designer in Sydney, and a UI designer in Philadelphia.

Ever since seeing a speech by Greta Thunberg last year, however, she has begun a 2nd career in activism—namely: starting a climate action group in her workplace, which got 40+ coworkers to join the global climate strikes in September and November, collected hundreds of signatures for the Klimanotstand in Berlin, and is now taking steps towards a carbon-neutral office. She also co-organises the Berlin chapter of Close The Camps, which supports migrants facing persecution and injustices, many of whom are climate refugees.

Speaker 2: Andrea Muttoni

Title: Situational Design - A new way to design conversational experiences

Abstract: Alexa, the brain behind Amazon Echo, allows users to interact with productivity tools, games, health, and many other Skills. Giving users the freedom to speak naturally comes with many design challenges. In this session, we’ll explore common voice design best practices as well as a new way of designing voice experiences that moves away from flowcharts and instead represents voice interactions as a deck of cards, ready to be played in every situation.

Bio: Andrea is a Technical Evangelist for Amazon Alexa, helping developers and designers all over the world build with Alexa. Before that he worked on both sides of software development as a full stack developer and as a product manager. When not prototyping new Alexa Skill ideas he enjoys composing music.
