Über uns

Hello, fellow human beings!

Fall 2020 is coming and it's time for an update and revamping of the group's focus. We started early last year as a self-help and study group, focused on the (free) Harvard Positive Psychology course by Prof. Tal Ben-Shahar, which can be found i.a. under http://www.openculture.com. We also would look into the critics of the field, who pointed to its abstraction from history and material conditions. The learning would be enriched with a review of the philosophy of emotions. We did not do much about the philosophy of emotions and only mentioned in passing some of the criticisms of the subject. On the other hand, we dwelt a bit more than planned on Habits based on two books, one by C. Duhigg and another by B. Roth, which were found useful.

So in this new phase I'd like to propose to look into Positive Psychology and social change, based on the learning achieved in the past. I started this group because I was embarking on a journey to learn Positive Psychology and wished to share this journey with other interested people. But my background, motivation and experience came from social change and ultimately the purpose I sought was to find better ways to support this. In Europe we sometimes take for granted the welfare and security, ultimately the individual wellbeing, coming from decades of social democracy and do not see the dangers to it posed by bigotry and right-wing political movements.

This new phase will then take as known the basics of PP but of course we can review any topic that the group considers useful.

I look forward to your feedback on these ideas and will start preparing our next Meetup for October.

Take good care of yourselves and others in these Corona times, err on the side of caution, and be sure that we shall get out of it sooner or later. As they say in Spanish, No hay mal que dure 100 años...No evil lasts 100 years....
