  • Rails Girls The Hague
Several members of DenHaag.rb coach or help out at Rails Girls The Hague, a training weekend organised by and for (mainly) women developers! Check out http://railsgirls.com/thehague (registrations only via their site) and let it know to anyone you know who you think might want to participate.

  • DenHaag.rb meets at /dev/haag!
For our next meetup, we will join http://devhaag.nl : "where designers, developers and 'makers' mingle". There will be talks about RubyMotion and about SVG for the responsive web. Extremely relevant for our crowd so register at: http://www.meetup.com/devhaag/events/123293272/ (There might be a waiting list already - just join it, the last week people who cannot make it, un-rsvp again) (Digidentity, where we had our meetup last December, is hosting, so it's just a few steps from Hollands Spoor train station. Dev/Haag meetups tend to be fully booked quickly, so register asap) CU there! Marek, Petrik, Pascal

  • Delft.rb @ OGD! (or: where Rotterdam.rb and DenHaag.rb meet up :-)
OGD is an allround ICT company with some 700 employees. Part of its business is software development, both in project and developer-for-hire form. OGD also develops part of its own software. The largest and longest project currently running is Coconut, a Private Social Network for companies with 50 employees or more, which centralizes communication, filesharing, documentation and social aspects. Coconut is developed in Ruby on Rails, using technologies such as SCSS, Ember.JS and of course the ever-present jQuery. More information on Coconut - along with a demo - can be found here (http://www.coconutcenter.com). On this night, there will be three talks by OGD employees: * Lennaert Meijvogel will speak about JavaScript frameworks, with a particular interest in Ember.JS. * Roelof Reitsma will speak about the toolchain used by the Coconut developers, involving code reviews and continuous integration. * Rene van den Berg will speak about securing web applications, emphasizing Ruby on Rails-based web applications.

  • Rotterdam.rb and DenHaag.rb @Digidentity_eu
Digidentity.eu (http://www.digidentity.eu), next to Den Haag Hollands Spoor train station will be hosting our next joint DenHaag.rb/Rotterdam.rb (http://www.meetup.com/rotterdam-rb/) meetup. Digidentity builds online authentication and e-signing services and is an all-rails company since 2008 (see some recent press coverage (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3653586/20121031_digidentity_brits/FD-01-015-20121031.pdf%20%281%20page%29-1.jpg) in Dutch). We'll have two tech talks, drinks and food. RoR for large scale enterprise grade applications We all know Rails is popular in startups, but how does Rails perform in a more enterprisey environment? How to reconcile agile and test-driven development with separate developer and tester job descriptions? Can you apply traditional software quality metrics to the Rails world? What about agile when the customer already has the functionality totally spec-ed out? And last but not least: does it scale :-) ? (Talk by Jurriaan Kamer (https://www.linkedin.com/in/kajurria), loosely based on a well known large-scale software project in the Netherlands) Your dream development/deployment pipeline With tools like Vagrant and Chef you can set up a virtualized development environment on your machine that replicates your deployment environment(s). Scripts can spawn instances of your app (or clusters of interoperating apps!): where you like, as many as you like, as often as you like. Benoist Claassen (http://nl.linkedin.com/pub/benoist-claassen/43/450/320) and Redmar Kerkhoff (http://www.linkedin.com/in/creativecode) wil walk you through: Vagrant and chef: when and why to use? Howto: Vagrant setup, provisioning Test Driven deployment: Use vagrant for CI, and auto-deploy after successful test on the CI Doors open at 19:00 - hope to see you all December 11th! Route description: exit Den Haag Hollands Spoor train station at the back side and immediately turn left, following Waldorpstraat. Cross the street to your left as soon as you see "The Globe" building on your left side (you'll have the entrance of T-Mobile behind your back). At the left side of the The Globe building, walk up the steps towards the parking lot. Digidentity is at the 7th floor of "Urban Offices".
