    For those curious, this came up in the dinner group after the book club. The phrase "begging the question" is a translation of the Latin phrase "petitio principii." A more literal translation would be "proposition of the beginning." It's the logical fallacy whereby the proof is assumed to be true only because the original statement is assumed to be true. Example: God exists because the Bible says he exists, and the Bible is the Word of God.
