What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

I grew up as a southern Baptist in South Texas. I remember the crushing guilt I felt at 12 when I lost my beliefs, but kept going along with the illusion to appease everyone around me. I moved to Denver four years ago and finally felt comfortable enough to accept that I no longer wanted religion in my life at all. I prefer to live my life knowing that I'm living for the present, and not for some "divine reward" down the line.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

I hope to find others that are like-minded, with similar interests and goals.

What do you feel you can offer the group?

I can offer the group my experience of an indoctrinated child, and possibly help others who are going through the same thing that I did.

I'm 29, and my husband is 36. We are working professionals looking for others that are likeminded humanists. We love movies, food, coffee, dogs, and nerd stuff.
