What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

I never bought the whole, he died for your sins thing. at a young age i quickly discovered that praying did nothing, in middle school i was testing religious doctrine and thought of it to be rather stupid, in high school i labelled my self a free thinker, i thought i had faith, I just did not know in what. When i as asked if i believed in got or a church, i would say yes knowing that was a lie. It was only after i saw several memes online making fun of religion, that i said to my self " my thoughts exactly", then i saw one caricature that led me to where i am now, it was a mocking of the twin towers with a plane headed towards them saying "Hail Dawkins!", i thought, Who is this Dawkins", witch lead to me getting "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins, i loved it so much i got all his books read them, from there i went on to Hitchens, Harris and Dennet, and over 8 years now, i call my self and Atheist, witch has cause some problmes with me and my catholic wife, but that is me in short.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

To meet other Atheist like my self, share our stories of how we got to where we are right now, to talk about how it has impacted our lives, family, friends and work among other things, how i love it when a JW come to my door to get his or her lecture of scripture, or the Mormons as well. to find others just like me, to feel like i am not alone with these ideas.

What do you feel you can offer the group?

Even though we may be labelled as a religious group by other religions, each atheist is different i his or her own way, we each have different backgrounds, different ideas, different experiences and opinions. I feel i have lost to share with other and in return they can share with me in this field.

Dual citizen US\MX, father was a JW at the time of my upbringing mother was catholic to an extent, both would contradict each other leading to my free thought.
