 Trail Details

Starting Elevation: 9180'
Elevation at Black Lake: 10,620'
Elevation Gain: 1,440'
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 9.4 Miles round trip.
Dogs: No

Weather is unpredictable at these elevations, be prepared for anything.

Carpool Location

We will meet at the park-n-ride at 88th and Sheridan at 7:15. I expect to be at the north end of the lot. Look for my red SUV. We will carpool to the free shuttle parking lot in RMNP and ride the shuttle to the Glacier Gorge trailhead. Those persons up north can meet us at the shuttle lot around 8:45--just be sure to let me know if you do not intend to meet at the carpool location. The free shuttle is inside RMNP, so someone from each vehicle will need to have a park pass.

Additional Terms and Conditions

You are responsible for knowing where the carpool location and the trailhead are and getting there on time. You are responsible for researching the trail and knowing your own limits. You are responsible for dressing appropriately and bringing the necessary gear, water and snacks. This trip--as are all trips with this group unless otherwise noted--is an all day outing, do not sign up if you have other obligations that afternoon. The pace will be moderate, you will need to be in better-than-average shape to do this trip. It is considered poor etiquette to cancel at the last minute; any cancellation within 24 hours of the start of this meetup without a very good reason will be treated as a no-show.

This is a participate at your own risk event.

A fine experience. Particularly the group today made for an enjoyable time in RMNP & then in Lyons.

It was a beautiful hike. The water falls in all size and shapes were enchanting. The path was well defined and wild flowers were pretty. Some of rocky path was very slippery because of rain today but every trees and plants were vibrant and sweet. Overall, it's a hike to revisit to admire the true beauty of Rocky Mountain.

Best 3 bucks I didn't have to spend. Don, you must have done something to the weather. It worked out great. You should know that 95 percent of the time they are wrong. Great hike and wonderful people made a fantastic day. I'm sorry that many of you missed this hike. Bill does it right.!

I've got my rain gear and lightning rod. Let's do this thing! The truth is I can't afford the 3 bucks.

A few reminders before the big day...Read the entire page, specifically the additional terms and conditions. No dogs allowed on this trip. Any cancellation within 24 hours of the start of the meetup will be treated like a no-show. You want to avoid no-shows at all costs, not only will it cost you $3, but you risk being disallowed on future trips. Print out the directions to the carpool location as well as the shuttle lot in RMNP, don't count on riding with someone who knows the way. Bring cash for drivers for gas. Be on time, we will leave the carpool location at 7:15 am sharp. There is no need to tell me if you are going to meet at the carpool location, I only need to know if you are going to meet at the shuttle lot.
