Andrews Glacier Trail Snowshoe (RMNP)

Andrews Glacier Trail Rocky Mtn Natl Park

Lets do a challenging, low-traffic trail. We will go to Lock Vale (the Loch--pictured below), and go up the Andrews Glacier trail, which gets almost no traffic in winter--probably about 8 miles round trip. It is not likely we will make it all the way to the glacier. We will take the more challenging route to the Loch--up the creek. This is not a beginner's trip, and the pace will be moderately fast. We will be crossing the frozen lake, do not sign up if you have a problem with that.

Weather at these elevations is unpredictable, dress in layers and be prepared for any weather conditions. Snowshoes are required. It is recommended that you bring micro-spikes, gaitors, poles and a camera.

There is a fee to get into the park but hopefully there will enough people signing up with passes that we  have one pass per car.

Trailhead Location

We will start from the Glacier Gorge trailhead, I want to leave the trailhead by 10:45AM. Let me know on your RSVP if you intend to meet here.

Additional Terms and Conditions

You are responsible for knowing where the carpool location and the trailhead are and getting there on time. You are responsible for researching the trail and knowing your own limits. You are responsible for dressing appropriately and bringing the necessary gear, water and snacks. This trip--as are all trips with this group unless otherwise noted--is an all day outing, do not sign up if you have other obligations that afternoon. The pace will be moderately fast, as are all of my more difficult trips, do not sign up if you have been on other outings in which the group has had to wait for you. It is poor Meetup etiquette to cancel at the last minute, cancellations within 24 hours of the start of this meetup will be treated as a no-show.

Bill was a great leader, and this was a terrific trip. Challenging, fun hike with a really nice group of people.

Does anyone have an extra pair of snow shoes? I have been looking on line to find some used ones but have only been able to find men's. I know that I can rent some from REI but I live in Thornton and its not convenient to get to.

You can get some cheap snowshoes for ~$50 on amazon. They aren't terrible, but you get what you pay for.

Thank you Brandon! I am going to buy some for sure. Costco looked like they may have some good ones too. Still shopping around. I'm going to pass on tomorrow because I don't feel prepared and I just committed to helping a girlfriend move.

The weather is not looking promising for this; are you going regardless of the snow we're supposed to get?
