Chasm Lake (RMNP)

Chasm Lake (RMNP)

Chasm Lake fills a deep cirque basin enclosed by the steep flanks of Mt Meeker (13,911’), Longs Peak (14,259’) and Mount Lady Washington (13,281’). Longs Peak’s iconic, northeast-facing ‘Diamond’ rises dramatically some 2,456' above this stunning alpine lake. With more than half the trail running above treeline, visitors will enjoy miles of open tundra and sensational views throughout.

Since this is the same trailhead as Longs Peak we can expect the parking lot to be full and that we will have to park on the road leading to the park. Expect to have to walk half a mile to get to the trailhead.

This is for experienced hikers only.

Weather is unpredictable at these elevations, be prepared for anything.

Trail Details

Distance: 8.4 Mile round trip
Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous
Elevation at trailhead: 9,405'
Elevation at highest point: 11,823'
Elevation gain: 2398'
Dogs: No

Carpool Location

We will meet at the park-n-ride at 88th and Sheridan at 7:00. I will be at the north end of the lot; look for my red SUV. Those up north can meet us at the trailhead. If you intend to meet at the trailhead be sure and let me know.

Bill, I know this may change, but do you have an estimated return time back to the Denver area? Just curious. Thanks.

Is anyone coming through Estes Park that I can catch a ride to the trailhead with?

I forgot to mention that those living up north can meet us at the trailhead, but if you intend to do that let me know.
If you are carpooling bring cash for drivers; drivers are required to accept money for gas.
Get to the park-n-ride early, we will leave at 7am sharp because of parking at the trailhead.

Have a bench seat truck, would really like to carpool or have someone split gas. Leaving from Highlands Ranch.

Would someone be willing to stop in Boulder on the way and pick me up? I will gladly contribute gas money.
