Let's get out of town for the weekend and do some climbing in the Cache la Poudre Canyon near Fort Collins. This area offers great multi-pitch trad and single-pitch sport climbing in a location not too far from Denver. I intend to climb both styles, with routes in the 5.7 to 5.11 range. Right now the weather forecast is looking decent; sunny skies and temperatures near 50 degrees.
The plan will be to meet at the listed parking lot at 5pm Friday to arrange carpools. We will drive to the canyon and set up indoors for the night (the place we will be staying is cost-free and heated; contact me if you want more details). Saturday morning we will get up with the sun and hike roughly 2 miles to Greyrock, a huge granite dome offering some fine multi-pitch trad lines. We will climb all day, then hike out and head back indoors for the evening. Sunday we will do some chill single-pitch cragging in the canyon, and after we've had our fill we will drive back to Denver. I anticipate getting back to Denver no later than 8pm on Sunday.
Full disclosure: this is a trad multi-pitch climbing trip happening in mid-January. Expect a long approach, committing routes, and cold temperatures. If that doesn't sound appealing, then this isn't the trip for you.
The size of this trip is being limited to keep it manageable and to ensure everyone gets plenty of opportunity to climb. Priority for this trip goes to people I've climbed with before, particularly those who can be part of the Friday through Sunday carpool. If you are unable to make the full carpool and instead plan on coming up later or leaving earlier, be sure to note that in the question box when you RSVP. You will be left on the waitlist and added to the going list if there is room.
RSVPs for this trip will open Sunday, January 6th at noon. Because the trip size is limited, only RSVP if you are serious about attending. I will remove climbers who have a history of no-shows or bailing at the last minute. It is your responsibility to keep your RSVP up to date; if your plans change, then update your RSVP accordingly. This is expected whether you are on the going list or on the waitlist. If you are not on the going list, please do not show up unannounced.
This trip is weather dependent. If bad weather is in the forecast, I may cancel or opt for a different location.
