Brilliant film depicting a very just and heroic man. He brought freedom to people who should never have been treated in in this way. What mindset ever in our history had the insanity to suggest that some people are inferior because of the colour of their skin. It beggars belief, but then I am of the 21st century.

What a film... Thanks Sue for organising this, it was very thought provoking and good for people to know what really went on in South Africa. What an achievement, not just by Mandela but also the many many other people that suffered and sacrificed for the freedom of their country.

Thoroughly enjoyed the film, but sorry I had to leave in a hurry as if I'd missed my bus at 11.30, I didn't relish being stuck in town for another hour for the next one. Nice to meet Sue and Tom, and hope to meet some more of you in the future

Great night. Thanks Sue for organising, thanks Barrie for lift. Thought provoking and moving film, as anticipated. Learnt some new information about what went on, and also made me want to go and explore more still.

Great company and kindness, as usual.
During he film I thought about "Under African Skies" (the film about Graceland-Paul Simon) and about a book I read a long time ago: July's People.
From Wikipedia: July's People is a 1981 novel by the South African writer Nadine Gordimer. Gordimer wrote the book before the end of apartheid as her prediction of how it would end. The book was notably banned in South Africa after its publication.

Hi sue im a new member ,going to come to a meeting ,when are you next having a pub meeting ? nick

    December 24, 2013

    • Steve

Hi Nick. Sue is away at the moment and has asked me to reply to your message. Welcome to the group :-) We often have meetings that are held in pubs. In January there is the Quiz on 15th, a pub crawl around Beeston on 25th and a "winter pub tour" on 1st Feb. Have a look through the calendar and you'll see what we've got coming up. We have lots of interesting meetings that are not held in pubs as well :-)

      Hi ok thats cool

      December 24, 2013

  • Anne h.

I would prefer to meet before going to the showcase cinema as i have no idea where it is and Wagamama sounds good as i am veggie/vegan and i think wagamama does vegan food. Also where is wagamama in derby. I will either come bu bus which stops at derby bus station or by car. Do you know where nearest car park is ? Sorry for all these questions but i don't know derby very well.

    December 23, 2013

    • Sue

Hopefully we'll be able to get into Wagamama (depends on numbers on the night and how busy they are). Nearest car park is Westfield itself which is £1.90 flat rate after 6pm. I'll post more details before the event.

      December 23, 2013

    • Anne h.

      Ok thanks Sue

      December 23, 2013

  • Sue

I've updated location to Showcase, Westfield, Derby. Film starts at 8:30pm.
