For this month's DerbyPy meeting we will have two talks:

Beginner's Talk:
The Standard Library
By: Alex Hagerman
For the last few months we have explored the internals of Python packages and modules. What we haven’t looked at so far is the breadth of packages and modules available “out of the box” with Python via the standard library. This month Alex will give a brief overview of what the standard library is, some of the functionality provided and highlight some commonly used packages.

Main Presentation:
Functions for All They're Worth: Going from Beginner to Advanced
By: Elliot Cameron
Most programmers, even advanced ones, take functions for granted. We think a lot more about classes, objects, and variables. But functions are an under-appreciated part of programming and are actually more useful than you might expect! In this talk we'll take a deep dive into functions and how to use this simple tool to do amazing things.

Each meeting will generally consist of:

• Food & chit-chat

• A presentation and discussion on some Python related topic. This may sometimes include hands-on opportunities, so bring a laptop if possible.

• An opportunity for other "lightning talks" and general discussion of cool or interesting things happening in the Python world.
