The State of AI-Assisted Development

Details

Join us for the next DSM Web Geeks Meetup, Monday, August 11th, from 6:30pm-8pm, hosted at Source Allies! Justin Stevens will be leading an open discussion on "The State of AI-Assisted Development."

AI tools promise to revolutionize software development, but what's the real impact? Join DSM Web Geeks for a lively, open-forum discussion as we explore AI-assisted coding: its promises, pitfalls, and profound implications.

We'll kick things off with a brief, demo showcasing Copilot combined with a Claude agent. Then, we'll dive into an interactive discussion. Can AI tools truly enhance productivity, or do they introduce hidden risks, such as "alignment scheming" and "strategic deception" recently noted in major studies? Are junior developers being empowered or ensnared by "vibe coding," an approach criticized for offering a false sense of accomplishment while hindering skill growth?

Meeting Schedule:
Welcome and Topic Introduction (5 min)
Summary & Highlights of Recent AI Press (15 min)
Live AI-Assisted Demo (20 min)
Open Forum Discussion (45 min)

Bring your curiosity, your questions, and an open mind to this thought-provoking and slightly mind-bending evening. All perspectives are welcome, so let's talk about what AI really means for the future of coding!

Check out https://www.dsmwebgeeks.com/ for details on this and all future events.

We meet the second Monday of every month. Our topics focus on new trends and techniques in web development.
