8:00 Closing discussion

Patrick Boggs, Bio: I built my first website in 1997 and with some luck, quickly landed a job as a web designer at a small firm in Juno Beach, Florida. After a couple of years, I realized I had a knack for HTML and CSS - visual layout with code. These days I work for "The Man" as an "Interface Engineer" (front end developer) at a large automotive auction company. I am lucky enough to get to work with 4 teams on two continents on multiple technology stacks... If I had my way, I would convert PSDs to HTML and CSS all day long. I love building scalable, reusable front end code using modern web standards based techniques. I also enjoy the freedom of a good mobile web browser and have built the front end for native apps, mobile web apps and some hybrids as well. When I am not writing code, I am playing music or hanging out with my awesome family. Event Overview: In 1999 I bought a student version of Macromedia Fireworks so I could slice images "like the pros". It seems like for the last 13 years I have had more conversations about how much I love Fireworks than any other software. I could almost be an evangelist... The thing is, I am not an expert by any means. There are about 10 things that make it the best graphics editor for working on the web. I want to show you some of these great features and why I love them. Outline: Why is Fireworks unique and what is it for?

  • Vector AND Bitmap all in one
  • It plays well with all other Adobe products
  • Pages man. Pages.
  • Layers
  • States
  • Image Exporting and optimization

How to build a 4 page "Interactive Comp" for your client

  • The web requires interaction
  • PSDs play well
  • Pages and sharing
  • States - all I need to know about them
  • Interactions
  • One file - no crazy labels
  • Smart guides are cool

New CS6 features

  • CSS Sprites
  • GOOD CSS output

Great meetup. Fantastic demo of some of the Must Have features of Fireworks. I also enjoyed the interaction the audience. We always have a conversational group, and this month was no exception.

That was a very well prepared and presented overview of Fireworks' capabilities, both unique from, and complimenting other Adobe applications. I, and I suspect most others who attended, now have good reason to give Fireworks a much closer look. Many thanks, Patrick!

Truly an inspiring presentation! I had forgotten what I liked about Fireworks when I used the Macromedia version years ago. It really is a unique application that I should be using almost every day.

An informative overview with an engaged, friendly group. It's inspired me to reach back into the Creative Suite and give this program another look.

Patrick-thanks for the presentation. Your skills, and knowledge were impressive. I'd say you convinced me to "take another look at Fireworks". Otherwise, I hadn't opened it once since installation. Sprites alone are worth a go. Kudos.
