ANNOUNCEMENTS

* MIRAMAR LANDFILL!!!!! City workers scored a victory yesterday when they were recommended to keep the contract that has them running the Miramar Landfill. Their winning bid came as a result of the "managed competition" process that allowed private companies to bid against city workers. Despite standards that were reduced specifically to pave the way for private companies, "private waste firms balked at taking responsibility for strict environmental standards," reports NBC San Diego. City workers have so far won all the competitions with private industry." Quote from voiceofsandiego.org

***THUR SEPT 27 at " Planned Parenthood's 21st ANNUAL Stand Down ACTION FUND PARTY in La Jolla" Elections don’t get more critical than this. In fact, the upcoming local and national elections are more important to the future of Planned Parenthood than any other election in recent history. This is our best opportunity to raise funds as we enter the last leg of the 2012 election year. With longtime Planned Parenthood Champion Senator Christine Kehoe as our featured speaker, we’re in for an inspirational and energizing evening. We hope you’ll join us – we need every ounce of support we can get to ensure no one will “get rid of” Planned Parenthood.... Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that.” - Mitt Romney BUY TICKETS TODAY! From local races to the battle for the presidency, support for Planned Parenthood and the reproductive health services it provides have become deciding factors. Many candidates, including Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, have publicly stated they intend to eliminate all funding for Planned Parenthood, even though most Americans believe providing reproductive health care is vital for our country’s future and should remain nonpartisan. In fact, not only has 1 in 5 American women sought reproductive health care from Planned Parenthood at least once in her lifetime, 69% of Americans oppose cutting federal government funding to Planned Parenthood. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest will commit its resources to elect candidates who will preserve the right to reproductive health care. To contribute to the event at the Honorary Committee level – $1,000 or more – or to purchase individual tickets online, please visit www.ppactionca.org/standnow today!
