This Sat. 7p: a second look at "I [HEART] HUCKABEES" @ Guy's Mid-City apartment

  • Yesterday · 6:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us Saturday, December 3rd as, at 7pm, we watch/listen to and discuss the director's audio commentary of the 2004 film "I [HEART] HUCKABEES". Written and directed by Daniel O.Russell. With Jason Schartzman, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Lily Tomlin, Isabelle Huppert, Dustin Hoffman, Mark Wahlberg. 1 hour 47 minutes. Rated R. Comedy.

To avoid any misunderstanding: the movie will be played with close captions/subtitles on but what we will hear is the director's commentary.

We met 2 weeks ago to view and discuss the movie itself. In case you want to watch the film before our meetup, I suggest streaming it on youtube.com for $2.99.

Finally: You are still encouraged to read the recommended text before attending the meetup as it'll be part of our conversation.

RECOMMENDED READING: The book BUDDHISM GOES TO THE MOVIES has a chapter on this movie, examining and expounding on its Buddhist elements.   To read the chapter, go to the toolbar at the top of any page for this website (desktop version, not cell phone version, nor app version) and click on MORE. Then select FILES. You can read off your device and/or make a print-out. (On a phone, to switch to the desktop version, scroll down to the bottom of any meetup page, just above the copyright line.)

Plot: Convinced that a series of coincidences involving a doorman hold some secret to life's largest riddles, Albert Markovski seeks the help of a detective agency unlike any other--which leads him down a path that questions the essence of existence itself. In an attempt to ferret out the meaning of these flukes, he consults Bernard and Vivian Jaffe, AKA the Existential Detectives, a pair of married metaphysicians who fearlessly investigate the mysteries at the core of their clients' secret innermost lives.
